2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

Fair enough. As I said, his type consider people like me criminals (I'm not going into detail as to why) so I'm not exactly comfortable with any semblance of a return to let's say Fantino-policing theory, for example.

I just think it's not right to rag on one type of voter when others can be equally uninformed/ignorant/daft.

Agreed - to be clear I wasn't knocking PC voters, simply hoping that a large enough contingent of voters don't vote for him.

A creepy old man loitering around on school property making unwanted physical contact with a child... seems that "paedophiles" are not just for Liberals anymore, eh Doughie?

At least Cho didn't whip it out.

Rob Ford estate file shows $1.1 million in assets — and no indication of any payout to widow and children.

And, shedding further light on a claim by Ford’s widow, Renata, in an explosive lawsuit, her late husband’s estate documents show no indication there has been a detailed accounting of the late mayor’s financial affairs, or any payout to his beneficiaries, two years after his death.

At least we now know the house is in her name, not Deco's or Doug's. But what's with the mortgages.

Interesting article in Maclean's regarding the Liberal political strategy and it's failure. The article is perhaps a bit Liberal centric however it's fair to say that the Liberal strategy apparatus is by far the largest and must sophisticated and hence in my opinion it's credible to argue that they largely set the tone for the election. Funny thing being they shot themselves in the foot multiple times on purpose but not on purpose. The result is a purposeful polarization of the electorate and election choice that ironically is going to crush their own party.

Also funny is the revisionist editorial strain in the Star recently trying to paint a halo around Wynne and her legacy. There is actually much to admire about some of the policy that came out during her tenure and transit commitments are one example that plays well on this forum. On the other hand it's undeniable that the Wynne's government set a new low bar for political muck racking, cronyism, mismanagement of government contracts and cynical political opportunism. The suggestion that her unpopularity could only be derived because of her sex and sexual identity in the face of these overwhelming facts is a shocking example of partisan ideological myopia in my opinion.

My prediction is a PC majority. The NDP may exceed the PCs in the popular vote, but its supporters will be too concentrated in fewer ridings.
Hense the problem with our electoral system.

The Liberals have the money to dig deep and look for PC 'scandals.' But with all the scandals they uncovered they just galvanized the NDP surge.

I agree that its a bit of a joke now that the Star is trying to pump up Wynne's legacy.

Wynne and the Liberals needed to be squeaky clean post-McGuinty. And the fact of the matter is they weren't. They just couldn't help themselves. That's the arrogance of being in power for 15 years I guess.

It's supposed to magnify the most popular choice so it's easier for a mass brokerage party to govern. It's not meant to let an unpopular group split public opinion and sneak up the middle.

Actually, they don't have the money. After this election they'll have to spend a lot of time rebuilding.

Going into this election they did. They were the best at fundraising of the 3 parties (at least before the rule changes). It helps to explain why they had no ideals and were always looking to give sweet heart deals to their major donors (like the Casino sale that should be a major scandal, but don't call them corrupt or some fart-catchers on this forum will complain).

After this election they're fucked.

But it doesn't quite work that way, does it?
