There are tabs that will be used for grouting those ducts after the system is tensioned. You are correct that the post tensioning bars are free to move around inside the ducts....... for now. They need to unbonded to the concrete wall they are within so that they can be tensioned at the end of...

That's mad wicked rebar! I guess that's what you get when you build a lopsided tower in a high seismic zone. If I was the engineer on that project I would've been looking at the architects like they're crazy.

When you say "tied into the main elevator/stair core" do you mean there are drop beams connecting these outer walls to the main core? Cause then you're right; this would definitely help with swaying. Thicker slabs can help with buildings that have large diaphragms and therefore big distances...

Thanks for clarifying about the post tensioning system. Wouldn't the slab thickness be more or less irrelevant to the height? The slabs don't take any more load than in a shorter building. Slab thickness is only really dependent on column spacing typically. Agreed about the shear walls in...

There are massive post tensioning cables in the walls of this building. That's quite unusual. Scotia Plaza doesn't have anything like that. The other thing that would be different is the column concrete strength and reinforcing. I'm guessing the concrete used for the columns is pretty high...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

It's just extremely tiresome to have you insisting on dragging this conversation on when it's clear that you're wrong about every house in DT not being within walking distance of a grocery store. You initially said that's not possible. It clearly is. You suggested that people downtown should...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

It's not a "rite of passage". It's literally just what happens to be the case for most people in downtown, so it has become expected. Also, I have lived downtown my whole life and I don't know a SINGLE person that takes a taxi/uber to do their grocery shopping.

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

I disagree. I think it's possible for all home in the core to be within walking distance (1 km) of a grocery store. That is ABSOLUTELY possible, if not already the case for the most part. Edit: just saw Northern Light's post above. Case in point.

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

Never have I ever said that. Regardless of how crappy it might've been in the past, I stand by what I think we should strive for now. Walking distance to a supermarket when you live 3 blocks from Yonge street makes sense to me. Downtown rent is also a lot more expensive than it used to be. There...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

Not many of us disagree with your assessment that the market will likely take care of that particular point and indeed grocery stores will likely open up nearby as density increases. I think we all just find it strange that you suggest ubering to get groceries when living downtown is actually...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

I'm sure one of those perks of living downtown that you'd love to enjoy is having a supermarket within walking distance. The idea that people should be ubering to get their groceries when they live 3 blocks from Yonge street is one of the strangest takes I've heard on this forum. Living downtown...

Also, 3 supermarkets within 5km isn't close AT ALL. Try walking even 3km carrying bags of groceries.

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

My only suggestion is to not act like it's unreasonable to complain about your only grocery store within walking distance closing. That may have been a reason the person moved there in the first place. It's not entitlement (as you were initially suggesting) to be concerned about having to take a...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

Most people living outside downtown have lower rent............ because they are outside downtown. It's literally just a trade off. Some people want to own a car, have a bigger space, and are okay with driving to do their groceries and get to other event locations. Other people want to be able...

    Perceptions of Accesible Retail Downtown

I think it just makes so much more sense from a congestion standpoint if people don't have to drive to do groceries. I've never owned a car and I cannot imagine taking a taxi to get groceries, especially given that I usually go get groceries for dinner right after work. Waiting for an uber in...

Hopefully there's at least a loyalty punch card! You know, rent 7 cranes and the 8th one is free?

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Wait, sorry, in my initial comment about wanting a bridge to the island, that was never about vehicles. I certainly don't think there should ever be a way for the public to drive to the island. But a pedestrian/cycle track bridge would do wonders for using the green space imo. Heck, it would...

Nice Pictures! Royal Bank Plaza is still the nicest looking building in the city imo. Can't get enough of that golden cladding.

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Interesting. I guess I could see how that would be a concern. But even so, Tommy Thompson Park is a large greenspace connected to land and I wouldn't say it has that problem. But maybe the island would get a lot more traffic because of its more central location.

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

This would be a dream come true imo. It would've been really nice if they had gone with the bridge connecting the east side of the island to the Lower Don Lands. Bridges connecting either side of the island to the mainland would be incredible for public access to green space and would lead to so...
