Wouldn't Kensington-Chinatown be more comparable to the Lower East Side? Of course Manhattan is very different from Toronto. I do think there's a "Toronto vibe" in Queens: largely built up around the same time, more geared toward big apartments and SFHs, fairly similar ethnic composition.

The Liberal vote in Spadina-Fort York dropped from 34,000 for Vaughan to 19,000 and the NDP grew from 12,000 to 16,500. Even with the leakage Vuong still squeaked through, demonstrating the strength of the Liberal brand in Toronto.

I'm skeptical that she'll come second though. Toronto Centre isn't a particularly "crunchy" riding and in a general election people vote more for the national horse race than local candidate. Plus her credibility has diminished significantly from then. The 8,000 raw votes in the by-election...

Yeah, the Conservatives are a nonfactor in downtown Toronto and for Spadina-Fort York to go NDP it would probably take the NDP pullling ahead of the Liberals nationally.

Alejandra Bravo is a very good candidate for the NDP. She speaks Portuguese as well as her native Spanish. She has performed well in the more Liberal, ethnic northern part of the riding in the past.

I think the NDP have a good shot at Davenport and decent one at PHP and Danforth. Greens will not win Toronto Centre and will probably come behind NDP there.

Yes, there are high rises throughout the GTA (and that typology in the Burlington is pretty common throughout Ontario). But the differences between 416 and 905 is a difference in kind I think.

I guess GTA is the correct term for the surrounding regions (Durham, York, Peel and Halton).
