Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg also has retail/tours/beer hall and is popular as both a tourist attraction and local hang out. It's a real pity to lose the opportunity to do something similar with the old Amsterdam Brewery building.

No problem with the root ball remaining wrapped. The canvas is porous and the roots will push through without problem as the tree grows (was a tree farmer in a past-life). It doesn't look like they left space for the trunk to grow much, however, as the paving stones appear to be cut quite close.

Not even the artists will take the liberty of adding a few trees to that desolate stretch of road. It would be nice if the developer put aside some money for streetscape improvements.
