Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

We need to know how packed it would get. If STC's ridership exceeds the capacity of RER, then it would be a no go.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Well I mean STC is a mall, so as long as the trains come on time one would think you can just walk around the mall for awhile and arrive at the precise time before the train comes. Also that RER station must be weather-proof at the least, with central heating. With all that I think we can live...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

With the 15 minutes wait time would it still come out ahead? How is the RER station going to look like?

15 minutes per train even to start off is too much of a downgrade from the existing SRT.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

I think initially they wanted to connect STC to Fairview mall by LRT, but judging by how it still hasn't been built yet, I'm guessing that tbh LRT isn't good enough for that route. Line 4 needs to be extended by subway eventually. If SSE becomes a reality, then line 4 extension will be the next...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

I think as long as STC is directly connected to subway, we're fine with being connected to line 2 or line 4. It's no difference. In some ways I think being connected to line 4 makes more sense. Since Yonge/Finch is a real destination nowadays. Also, Fairview Mall is a popular destination in...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Yes if our buses went directly to Kennedy, eliminating one transfer, I think more people would be more okay with SSE gone. But as is, half of our buses go to STC so I guess at least half of Scarborough will benefit from SSE. Also, now that York U (even though it's in the middle of nowhere) has...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

STC right now is THE hub in Scarborough. For example, the bus stop right next to my house (like 1 minute walk) is 134 and it terminates at STC. So at that point you might as well take line 2 since there is nothing else you could take that makes sense.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Honestly, with the rising cost on this ONE stop subway extension, wouldn't it make more sense to complete the Sheppard subway extension instead? I mean, extend line 4 all the way to STC. That would accomplish almost the same thing, and offer more stops in the middle.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

We can already see there is no point in delaying a major transportation project of this magnitude. The cost would just continue to escalate. If it's financially unfeasible now with the current price tag, then it will be even more unfeasible in a couple of years when the price doubles.

I believe in Tory's last interview on City Pulse 24 he said he would have shovels on the ground before the next election or something. He's a load of shit haha. Seriously don't vote for Tory if you actually want to see SSE in your life.

That's exactly what I'm thinking right now.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

It seems like this line is indeed in trouble if the costs keep ballooning up. It also seems like our mayor is trying to use this line to earn votes, but it may not actually end up being built considering crucial details are being hidden until after the election. Very sad about how things are...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

That's Montreal though. Maybe their nightlife ends earlier than Toronto so it's not as important. Maybe for clubbing you'd want to stay until 2AM, but for strips clubs 11PM to 1AM is easily prime time. So you could catch the subway in-time but not the RT. Not to say that there is nothing else...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Maybe noone is using it because that 40 minute time difference matters a lot when you're coming back from downtown nightlife. You might not even catch the last train in time so it's just pointless to use the subway because it stops two-thirds of the way to your destination.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

People plan their trips beforehand based on when the last train is. So obviously it would be deserted near closing time. But guess what, if you extended it by 1 hour then it wouldn't be deserted at those same times. Nightlife doesn't end at 12AM, it has really just begun. Because line 4 is a...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

The last train to arrive at downsview is later than 2:05AM. So yes it's a real subway station.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Last train going eastbound at Victoria Park: 2:11am, all week Last train going westbound at Islington: 2:14am, all week The only reason the last train going eastbound at kennedy is at 1:31am IS because the Scarborough RT is not a real subway line. You can arrive at Kennedy station well past 2AM.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Considering it is a station with accessibility, it is the only station of its kind to end before 2AM. I've checked all other stations with accessibility, and they all end at 2AM or later. Even Kipling, the other terminus, ends at 2:20AM. It's within reason to assume that if STC becomes a...
