I'm sorry but why do you want to spend so much money on weird bespoke technology for a line that will only last 5-6 years?

Get this, we're not building this because "we didn't come up with this", we're not building it because this is ridiculous and insane.

P.S. The Cambridgeshire is an incredibly silly project that many make fun of, same with similar projects like the Adelaide O-Bahn.

If this was to be done anywhere, it would be done on the surface portions of the subway and it is not.

Would have been nice for the cyclists to use a heated right-of-way when the snow falls. Motorists do have heated driveways.

Do you know how expensive that would be to operate Walter?

Kilometers of heated bicycle paths would be pointless in the winter as you would still have to contend with the snow elsewhere. Most people do not bicycle in the winter because of the snow, ice and cost of their bike.

Well that’s not helping your argument. The rich and elite are not taking transit. They either live close enough to walk or pay for parking. The ttc needs to attract choice riders.

that would involve an entire culture shift and procurement of a huge amount of equipment to expedite snow clearing of sidewalks. its not practical

Most major roads in Toronto are constructed with a concrete base topped with a few inches of asphalt. Side and residential streets are asphalt on top of base of sand or gravel.

its the asphalt that cracks and needs to be replaced. its also directly overtop of the heated lines. that also brings this point: how will they be maintained?
where will the heat comes from? electric? hydronic? will you and the rest of toronto be prepared to pay for it along with the upkeep via taxes?

thats why most of toronto's grand ideas remain as fantasies... noone wants to pay for it.

I just don’t understand why we don’t do concrete if our weather fluctuates so much we end up with countless potholes. My understanding is this would not happen with concrete. So it might be an upfront cost but would be a huge maintenance saver. Unless I’m totally wrong.
