YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

So what is Remington's hold-up?
They are developing the land? They have like 3 different projects on the go down there right now, it takes time. It's not like there is much traffic on Enterprise right now anyway, there is no real need for the dedicated lanes right now.

New renders for Cornell Terminal:
Construction scheduled to start this year, and be complete by end of 2019.

The problem is that the road system is problematic for Viva service. The GO station is at a dead end of YMCA Blvd. The main Purple buses turn from Rivis Road onto YMCA Blvd, bypassing the station. It's not a long walk, but it's annoying if you're taking a bus to the GO train. The new transitway will make everything function better.

It's at most 330m from the Viva stops to the nearest part of the platform. The Viva Pink stop within the station itself is 90m from the platform, so these stops are only an additional 220m maximum--coincidentally, that is the same distance from the furthest parking spot in the station to the platform. At Oshawa GO for reference it's 350m from the farthest parking spot to the train. <330m total is not bad at all.

The land isn't developed yet. They aren't going to build all the roads in advance. The city could do that, but they have much better things to do with their resources.
Why hasn't Remington developed that land? They have acquired it and left it vacant for at least a decade. Someone siad they are waiting for Buttonville airport to close - is that true?

Yes I know, but it's still annoying to not have the Purple line stop in the station itself. The bus platforms should of course be closer than the farthest parking spots. As I said, it's a temporary problem so not a huge deal.

It's a huge chunk of land. These things take time. The York University campus will be in that area.

There is such thing as market absorption rates. They can't go build 30,000 condo units at once, they have to build them one at a time to let the market absorb the new stock. Which they are doing.

Is this something they can direct the new funding towards? Maybe you can apply for a planner job in the Region.
The section between Birchmount and Unionville GO will be paid for by development charges as Downtown Markham gets built out. Seeing as the traffic in that area is far from congested I don't really think there's any rush. I believe this is also supposed to be coordinated with updates to Unionville GO station that will be adding another platform and I believe shifting the platform north a bit to enhance VIVA rapidway connections. It's also unclear how the VIVA rapidway will interact with the Rail bridge, will it just take two of the existing lanes? Will the bridge be expanded, will they only have one bi-directional transit-only lane?

They have not started designing yet.
