With the benefit of hindsight, how to change Canada's immigration policy?

Oh, are we starting a book club? Okay, so you read "Lost Discoveries" like I said, and I'll read "Who Gets In"? How about it?

............

P.S. Opinions are best formed in your own head rather than copied out of persuasive books that sound intellectual.

It may surprise you, but I have already agreed with the core point you are trying to make of stricter integration and less fragmentation of culture and communities. It's just the way you go about doing it, and the silly accompanying remarks and essays that I find disagreeable.

I understand full where you are coming from: I am sitting with a copy of Quantum Leaps on my lap ( a book of 100 scientists who changed the world) and the author acknowledges that in antiquity it is very difficult to nail down dates and accomplishments because so much was lost. Clearly, China, Mesopotamia and other ancient cultures developed technologies and methods concurrently or before the rise of so-called Western cultures. But what did they do with it?
If attacking other people's positions makes you feel your position is stronger, then good for you. I could summarize my experiences with Canada's immigration system or give you the Reader's Digest version of Stoffman's book, but I think you may find it more intriguing to read it yourself. BTW, thanks for the tip on Lost Discoveries. I will pick it up.
I am not 'racist' in the purest definition of the word: there is only the human 'race' anyway. I am however, particularly proud of what has been accomplished by the human race in the past 100 years or so. There have been setbacks, to be sure, but the fact that the West has to guard it's borders while most other countries don't is proof enough that we are doing something right.
However, this modern 'success' could be very short-lived if we do not guard it more diligently: while we are busy apologizing and prostrating ourselves for what our ancestors did, we are in danger of losing our way.

I think it's safe to say with the benefit of hindsight that Immigration should've denied Grandmaster Beez and Dichotomy entry into the country.

benefit of hindsight?

are you talking about when you walk behind a chick on the sidewalk and get a good look at her hind? i'd say it's pretty beneficial.

thanks to our immigration policies, you can look at all types of ass from all over the world. it's a friggen crack epidemic out there! personally, i find the most beauty in the latina booty.

beez, dichotomy, don't ever tell that while driving down the street, you've never checked out the "can can" on a fine ass "ja-may-can"! you can thank immigration for that!

Anyways, Dichotomy, if you want to know the answer to why you are called a racist by some people, it's not because of some big conspiracy against you, because I agree with the basic point you make.

However, if it was just realism and not racism, then it should seem like, if all immigrants integrated perfectly and became Canadians in every sense of the word, you would be perfectly fine with it.

But the way you write posts (Africans enslaved and brought against their will should be thankful the Europeans gave them an opportunity, Aboriginals tricked or murdered should be thankful they were "given chances" by the Europeans, etc) that seems to hint at some deeper prejudices. Which results in the accusations which you seem to find incorrect.

And finally, I personally wish you'd stop saying things like "we in the West have to apologize for our successes" and stuff like that. As a person, you don't receive any more credit or pride for the work of Thomas Edison than a native from Papa New Guinea does.

Having survived being called 'faggot' on Yonge St. in '78 for holding hands with my BF, I am sure I will survive being called 'racist.' :D

It's the elephant in the room whenever a discussion gets started about immigration. Champagne socialists will always throw out labels like that because (to them, at least) it is meant to be a slur.
I am proud to be a white, male living in one of the richest countries on earth that was built on Judeo-Christian principles (even though I am an atheist, I can live with that, too). The fact that everyone wants to live here must be an example that 'we' are doing something right. My participation and connection to this culture and economy, plus the contributions of my parents, their parents and my great-grand parents - all of whom were either born here or in the U.S., earns me the right to state that I am 'western' in values and upbringing.
For the record, I lived with a black-man for 4 years in the '80s. My favorite aunt is from Belize. I dated the Ricky Martin of Hong Kong for a few months about 7 years ago. I know who and what I am.
I am not 'racist,' but I am pro-Canadian. I bristle every time someone asks me repeatedly, 'what nationality are you?' when I reply that I am Canadian.
Multi-culturialism is a total crock. Anyone who doubts that needs to drive through Markham or most of Brampton to see that people do NOT want to be with those who are not 'their kind.'

BTW, anecdotal evidence is permitted by many, many scholars (including the 'revered' Jane Jacobs), so ptttttt to those who sneer at it!

Oh, I can definitely admit to that. One of the very best things about Canada's multiculturalism is the improvement in the quality and variety of the Canadian women. Myself, I've dated an FOB Chinese, East Indian, Maltese, Ukranian and Italian. Being English-myself, I have to admit that my country's womanfolk are not the best of Europe. Now the Baltic states, there's some good looking women.

jim slip would totally disagree with you.

One of the main reasons why we have racial tensions is because too many people play the race card. People need to stop screaming out racism every time they hear something they don't like.

Eww...just go to http://www.jimslip.com and you'll see a bunch of very ugly women.

i know. not some of his finest work on the front page.

regardless, there are plenty of hot british chicks. just go to an adult search engine and search by nationality.
