Who would you like to see win the 2016 US election?

I understand that Pena Nieto is the Mexican equivalent to Trudeau.

Handsome, Young, Media Savy, 50%+ support after being elected.
But after time; lack of intelligence, being weak on crime, corruption and a very poor manager of economy caught up to him.

Oh, give it up! Trudeau is popular and has no opposition. Stop being a grumpy HarperBot...

Bottom line on the polls is this: if Trump continues to get crushed in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Colorado, the election is over

I find I similarities of the Trump and Trudeau campaigns quite noticeable. Neither is a good speaker and they both rely heavily on the media and social media image. Obama and Pena Nieto also concentrated heavily on latter.Harper was the exact opposite. He deliberately avoided media and concentrated on running the country.

Clinton is more like Wynne. Ruthless, corrupt and dishonest and demanding a vote else the public is sexist/homophobic.

As for Harper, his campaign was atrocious. Instead of running on the best GDP,best jobs creation, and lowest increase in debt in the G7, he ran a "Trudeau's not ready" campaign. Of course he was right, as the first 8 or 9 months of economic data shows, but it's not how you win elections.

Considering the lack of substantive changes to economic policies, the economic data shows nothing but instability brought on by the collapse of oil prices and staganant emergent market Canada is dependent on.

As to concentration on image:

Those Tim Horton's appearance on a sweater is just as much about image. He deliberately avoid mainstream media - it didn't mean he was against having his image portrayed in a manner that is more conducive to message control.

Considering the lack of substantive changes to economic policies,

Many major changes.
  1. Promise to run $10B deficit. First increase in deficit in non recession year since Trudeau Sr. This leads to business fear.
  2. Promise to add carbon taxes with no details. Alberta MD did the same thing. Again, huge uncertainty to business and individuals.
  3. Abandon election promise of $10B deficit and balanced in 4 years after $25B extra deficits. It then became $30B this year, $100B after 4 years, and maybe $150B before balance. Another major scare to business.
These all sent a strong message that Canada is becoming a riskier place and business proceeded cautiously.

Major win for Trump in meeting with Mexican Prez.

Between this and his trip to Louisiana flooding, he looks more presidential than Obama.

Err, no - economists seem to beg to differ:

As per my familiar tone, you speak of them like they're slanderous alimony-grubbing ex-wives or something.

Donald Trump's latest pivot: "make the hemisphere great again"

If the "hemisphere" in question is interpreted as the northern hemisphere rather than the western hemisphere, then it's an even lower bar to brag about keeping the wealth and jobs in "our hemisphere" as it could be accomplished by sitting back and not doing anything regarding the current state of affairs.
