I think a few more who should be added for consideration are Jean Leloup, Wintersleep (perhaps the best Canadian group to get mainstream recognition in the past few years), and Caribou.

My own personal favourite is Do Make Say Think. To be able to create instrumental pop songs that are so beautiful and can take your mind away from a chilly -25 degree walk through the city is to me the essence of great Canadian music. That and writing anthems for empty bathtubs and seventeen year old girls.

I'm surprised Stan Rogers hasn't been mentioned yet. He's probably Canada's greatest folk legend. Nothwest Passage If anything the subject of this song is definitely growing more and more relevant in 21st century Canada.

The Log Driver's Waltz?

I think there are only a handful of songs that could bring me back to Canada, no matter where I was. The Log Driver's Waltz is one, the wretched Hockey Song is another. I guess others would be the Hockey Night in Canada theme, the Great White North theme (koo-roo-koo-koo-koo-koo-roo-koo), and by extension the theme from Hinterland Who's Who, Telefrancais (stick around for the first, third and last songs by Les Squelettes)
