Where are you on the political spectrum?

I'm pretty much always in the same spot:

I notice that individual people, both right and left, tend to have both authoritarian and libertarian ideas at the same time. For example, the left is authoritarian on issues such as smoking bans and gun control but is libertarian on gay rights and abortion. Conversly, the (traditionalist) right tends to be the former on matters of censorship and conduct(hence the apparent irony of the US being uber free speech but restricting swearing and sex on television), but takes the latter stance on matters of gun control and so-called nanny-statism.

Moderate socialist but skeptical of all forms of gov't, and POed when leaders don't fulfil their campaign promises (9 times out of 10 they don't). What would that make me? ;)

A walking contradiction? You can't be a socialist and be skeptical of the government at the same time.

Well, by beliefs are pretty much contradictory too. I am a left-wing anti-union person. Now who do I vote for?? =S

libertarian party?

Anyone but Harper.

Tight reign on Police and spies to ensure good law enforcement and national security.

Tight reign on foolish spending of the public purse.

Equality does not mean we are equal but it does mean affording equal opportunities and fair distribution of public funds.

Taking care of the young and the old citizens who require assistance.

These are some of my short and long term goals as a citizen, I vote for the party who supports my school of thought.

I seem to be farthest out from those who posted on the Left Libertarian spectrum. Not a surprise result for me (nor is Whoaccio's result, as way off from me as you can get - though that's fine - it takes all kinds).

Always fun to do these things, knowing their limitations.

Just to be clear, this compass result below was a joke. I thought the "take that Hitler" was sarcastic enough.

This really isn't so far from yours.

I find it difficult to understand left Libertarians (even though I am ostensibly leaning slightly that way of centre myself). Wouldn't that seem a contradiction in terms? Leftists generally seek social change through government regulation. Wouldn't being libertarian make you an ineffectual leftist or vice versa?

This kind of compass was designed by Liberterians to attract college students to think of themselves as "left libertarians" as opposed to "leftists" as just about anybody under 30 would end up on the libertarian as opposed to authoritarian end of the spectrum. The distinction between social and economic liberties is arbitrary and as such the whole compass is a little suspect.

Are you saying that people who are anti-capitalist (economic left) are also likely to be religious, against gay marriage, etc. (social authortarian), there is really no difference?

Did I say that? What said was that if you are anti-capitalist, you aren't a libertarian no matter how much you be believe in gay marriage. You are just a socially liberal anti-capitalist. You can't claim to be for personal liberties, i.e. libertarianism, and then only to apply those liberties to the social or economic sphere. The dividing line between the two is arbitrary.
