I see the report on QQE is not on this month TTC schedule as per the public meeting notice and noting new for pushing it down the road as a delay tactic.

I guess they need a new mayor in place for it

Well, there's a surprise!

From WT

The Waterfront East LRT (WELRT) project team last provided an update to stakeholders and the general public in conjunction with consultations at the end of March and the beginning of April 2023. At that time the team was targeting a report to the June 2023 City Council meeting.

The report timing has now been updated to the end of October 2023, and there are a few reasons for the change. The new timing will allow us to better align with the 2024 City Budget process, and with the Waterfront Revitalization Next Phase report, which is a direction previously approved by City Council.

In the meantime, the team will take advantage of the revised timing to keep momentum going on the project. Work will continue on finalizing all of the background documents and preparing for the release of the draft Environmental Project Report (EPR) to the Province in conjunction with the Transit Project Assessment Process. The submission of the EPR is anticipated to follow Council approval in the Fall.

The WELRT remains one of the City’s top transit priorities and this has not altered with the revised report timing. The team will continue to keep you informed as the project advances and we look forward to continued engagement.

What surprise???

The continue story how to push the project down the road due to lack of funding on TTC part. We will all long gone before it gets built. Not only for Phase 1, but the whole thing.

That whole statement is just gaslighting. Like the part where they say it will now better align with the budget. Does showing up with a plan late in 2023 make it more likely we can find funding for it? By the end of the year they'll be telling us there's no budget room left and they need to push 6 months for the report to come out in 2024 and be part of the 2025 budget process.

They've done everything they can to delay this as long as possible, probably hoping some other level of government will ride in with a bag of cash, or that construction costs will magically not be more expensive in the future.

I mean, is there a possibility construction costs will deflate? Surely the industry will try to somewhat catch up to demand at some point, if only to outcompete one-another…

Perhaps if the city knows construction capacity will become more available soon, they’d rather hold off till then. Though we’d need some insider info around policy/the market, because from the outside there is no sign of things getting more affordable anytime soon.

If TTC was short $90 million in 2010 that has grown to $600 million over a year ago, what do you think it will cost if and when the extension gets built with the Union Loop being part of it?? Cost will not go down over time. If you are holding off in hope of falling prices, you will not be around to see if it happens.

As I have stated since 2008 when I first saw TTC plan for Union, it will service/handled the current area today easy, but will never support the full built out of the waterfront. Given the fact density for the waterfront is 10 times higher than originally plan for and will be even higher if the developer get their way with Ford leading the way.

Its also why i have pushed the bypass of Union since its a money pit and leave it to TTC to do it on their dime than trying to get more money not only for the loop itself, but the system as a whole.

Missing from the picture today is the makeover of Bay St that was to take place during the rebuilding of the tunnels and loop.

Maybe a new (progressive) mayor can spark some change. Is suspect not, but you never know.

"Keep momentum going on the project" ?????

I'm baffled at how a Next Phase report would alter the plans for this project - new routing? New stop locations?

It sure seems that "they" have already arrived, so if we build it......
