UrbanToronto's gay demographic?

I have noticed a gay-friendly overtone to this website

That's what I felt too when I started this thread. It could be noted that from what I gather, most (all?) the mods are openly gay men and most of them happily point it out when discussing a gay perspective on the topic at hand.

You'll notice this pattern in architecture/urban planning/transportation forums from other locales as well, so it's really not just a UT phenomenon - though what might be unique is that the core group of gay UTers actually know each other in real life, and some of us we're a bunch of carry overs from the pre-UT days even.

And no, not all the mods are gay. About half and half.

It was especially like this on many of the Rave related messageboards in Toronto.

I just think most women either don't know about this site and/or just can't be bothered with contributing to messageboards of this ilk? I don't know a single woman who posts on messageboards but know of a whole bunch of men that do.

Actually, I moderate message boards and the majority of posters are women. I find this board (and sports-related boards) to be the exception.
As for the gay/straight/bi ratio here? I'd never really thought about it much. Does it matter?

And Urbandreamer, I played with Tonka toys. :p

I apologize if I offend anyone, but so what? I for one find that labels are use by people who are just looking for control of one thing or another. We are who we are, I my be a demographic to a politician buy to myself I am an individual that shares or does not share the opinions of others.

A ratio of LGBT/GLBT, etc to "straights" is meaningless to me.

(a little ranty but labelling pisses me off)

I'm relatively new but never noticed this supposed demographic stat in UT, not that it matters one way or another.

Seriously dudes you don't need to be all look-how-progressive-I-am by saying "Does it matter?" again and again. Of course it doesn't MATTER - it's just interesting. Demographics are interesting.

Some are more interesting than others. This particular demographic statistic isn't all that interesting to me personally. I'm more curious about time of day people post, type of topics people respond to, where people are posting from (work/home/geographic location). As a discussion moderator, that's what interests me more than sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity.

Straight guy here. Do people really use the accronym LGBT/GLBT? What about the undecided?

Well anything design related seems to have a higher proportion of gay men. From fashion design, to interior design, to architectural design.

We're here, we're queer, get.... oh nevermind.

It's the same in my line of work. I am a translator and practically all the translators I know are gays or lesbians. It may not be relevant, but it is interesting.

Well if you want to be inclusive you can always use LGBTTIQQ2S

Or you can just say "the geighs".
