They were digging ditches on Unwin Ave today near the cherry beach sports field. That is a good start!

I guess the “vast amounts of snow run off” is from all the snow they have dumped south of Unwin.

Email from Paula Fletcher

“I have heard from many of you about the terrible state of Unwin Ave.
I also went down to see it for myself. What a mess!

Transportation staff have been actively monitoring Unwin and have now devised a plan to address what is in fact, a very complex situation.

I am attaching the letter for you here.
For context, the ground under the road, which in many places is at the same level of Lake Ontario, is saturated.

Drainage is almost non-existent due to this high water table and the vast amounts of snow run off this year. It also doesn’t help that there are no sewers on Unwin.

Despite 510 tonnes of gravel materials put down in February, there has been no significant improvement.

Immediate actions include removal of standing water, drainage improvements, and regrading. Temporary surface stabilization and patch repairs will be completed where conditions permit.

In May, construction crews are expected to mobilize to complete road resurfacing. These repairs will not fix the underlying conditions but should help to make it more passable.”

They could create channels on the side and Crown the road to drain water away from the middle to prevent pooling.
