Mystery building

Hello,

I am trying to identify another building. Can anyone suggest what thread would be appropriate for this kind of post? I don't want to hijack this thread in any way.

Thanks :)

This house was included in an article by Connie Adair for the National Post's Post Homes section on Saturday. It is for sale and will be sold within the next day or so, most likely. My fear is that it will be demolished and we'll see a McMansion take its place. The lot is huge, so it would come as no shock to see this bulldozed by the new owners. My parents are friends with the current ones (who would quite likely support a heritage listing/designation, but soon they will have no say in its future). I plan on filling out a heritage listing nomination form, at the very least. Do I need the owners' permission in order for the request to be reviewed, or can heritage staff contact them? Anyone know? If anyone can dig up who the builder and contractor are, that would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I can't find an online link to the article I mentioned above; so I'll write it out for you guys to read.

MODERN HISTORY

Parkwoods/Donalda: 16 Barnwood Crt. (York Mills and Don Mills roads); Asking price: $1, 788, 800; Taxes: $10, 320 (2013); Bedrooms: 4+1; Bathrooms: 4; MLS # C2832949

By Connie Adair

When the owners saw 16 Barnwood Crt., they knew it was the house for them. "Being from Vancouver, we loved the West Coast design with lots of cedar and light. Also, the property is just over half an acre and is surrounded by 450 feet of cedar hedging," the homeowner says. The house was designed and built in 1974 by Henry Fliess, one of the original architects of the master-planned Don Mills suburb, the homeowner says. "He used to live in the house next door." The properties of Barnwood Court were once part of the Donalda Golf Course but the land was deemed unnecessary for the club's use and was purchased and developed by a group of members, the homeowner says. There are just 12 executive homes on the street. The owners bought the home in 1996, attracted by the "great structure and look." The home has also been noticed by others. "We get requests almost every year from film location scouts, but have never taken them up on their offers," the homeowner says. The only major interior renovation they did was a gut renovation of the kitchen. Dark cabinetry was removed and replaced with white and the space was opened up. The homeowner says they loved the rest of the house the way it was and simply painted and installed new carpets to refresh the space. "Due to the light, particularly in the winter," the homeowner says the atrium is his favourite space. It is 22 feet high and has southwest-facing windows. The 3, 000-sq-ft. home "has great space. The bedrooms are good sizes," the homeowner says. The bedrooms are on the east side of the atrium, with the master in one corner. A hall leads to the children's bedrooms, which are separated by a bathroom. One bedroom has been converted into a professional recording studio. The owners have landscaped the 101x280-ft. property and changed the blacktop circular driveway to interlocking stone. "There has never been a pool, but there is lots of room for a pool or a tennis court," the homeowner says. "We have had numerous parties. With three walkouts to the patio, the house was designed for entertaining." "The home is located in a quiet pocket and sides onto the Donalda Golf Course and Country Club," says listing agent Ecko Jay of Ecko Jay Realty Ltd. "The home has a nice retro feel." It is within walking distance of schools, nature trails, ravines and parks. The Shops at Don Mills are a short drive away, as are the DVP and Hwy. 401.

I'm in love with this house!
Here's a thread for photos of interesting low-rise residential architecture in the city. I'll try to post houses of any style with some details on a regular basis, but I'm going for the truly outstanding. Everyone is free to contribute something new, of course, even if the photos aren't original. Include the address, and optionally some other details. For this, TOBuilt is a good resource.

Barton Myers Residence, 1970
19 Berryman Street

19 Berryman was designed by Barton Myers for his personal use. The interior was rather ground breaking, and has exposed ductwork and structural elements. There are two bedrooms closer to the front, and the master bedroom is linked with a bridge that spans an atrium.

:)

Can't start new threads yet. Have requested and are waiting for permissions to change. Anyone interested in another mystery? Trying to identify the location of the attached Starbucks in Toronto. There doesn't seem to be a lot of places in the city where there are shiny office buildings and old (yellow?) brick buildings with narrow alleys like this? I have done a lot of searching with Google maps of Starbucks and Street View and I haven't been able to find it.
