TTC targets farebox cheaters

Road tolls are good ideas, but the proceedings have to be used on improving the driving experiences.

...In the same way that cigarette and alcohol taxes should go into improving the flavour of cigarettes and alcohol, right?

More like cigarette and alcohol tax should go to healthcare to offset the subsequent costs and improve the quality of the living experience.

You don't detect sarcasm very well, eh?
How exactly was that sarcasm? Seems more like a failed attempt as irony.

Maybe you should read the whole thread, instead of just the last few posts...you might get a clearer picture of what everyone is talking about, since you seem to be really lost right now.

You were on the 501 Queen streetcar and get off at Yonge Street. You have a transfer with you.

You walk up Yonge Street and stop in a couple of stores for a quick or two purchases. Maybe even some banking. You spend maybe only 5 to 10 minutes shopping, very short.

You go down the steps into the subway entrance at Yonge Street and Shuter Street. You are attempting to enter the QUEEN subway station using the QUEEN transfer.

The collector refuses you entry.

So you walk down Yonge Street and enter the same station at Queen Street. You are attempting to enter the same QUEEN subway station using the same QUEEN transfer.

The collector lets you in.

Technically, you had done a STOPOVER. You should have paid another fare. You are a naughty boy or girl.

One, you should not be entering the Shuter Street using transfers. Two, the waiting and walking time between streetcar and subway (especially if you just missed the vehicles) is long enough to include a stopover or not.

I think it is time for a time-based transfer, like they have in other cities.

Agreed.

When I was a transit-virgin in the time-based system in London it took all of 2 seconds to fully comprehend. After moving to Toronto several years ago I'm still occasionally thrown by some of the bizarre quirks of our system, transfer-wise. Silly shit like this just adds one more barrier for those seldom/occasional users, making them that much less likely to become casual/regular users.

On that topic...how's that St Clair pilot going? Is still on a 2hr transfer? Have they released any numbers or analysis? Surely they've had enough time by now, though I'm not sure what information could be gained from a transfer policy that only effects a single line...

Some TTC collectors understocking Metropasses to avoid cash pileup: audit

Some TTC collectors are not stocking up properly on passes in order to avoid having large wads of cash in their booth, an internal TTC audit has found.

Auditors say one-third of collectors sampled did not have adult Metropass returns and one half did not have student or senior Metropass returns, which means they would have run out of the passes before the selling period was up.

“Although Revenue Operations has a supply of Metropasses on hand, customers are complaining about not being able to easily buy Metropasses,” stated the audit report, which was part of Tuesday’s TTC audit committee agenda. “It appears that many Collectors are minimizing their Metropass sales in order to avoid the difficulties of dealing with large amounts of cash by not ordering Metropasses from Revenue Operations.”
