The Keele Station on Line 2 is scheduled to get elevators by 2021.

Back in February 25, 1966, when the first phase of Line 2 (then called the Bloor-Danforth Subway) opened, there was a "first". From link:

Keele also contained a Canadian first—a “speed ramp” escalator.

The moving walkway shuttled streetcar passengers from a temporary streetcar loop on Indian Grove up a 30-metre incline into the station. The Stephens-Adamson Manufacturing Company of Canada, which supplied the device, claimed it could handle 72,000 passengers an hour at capacity.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian conveyor never had a chance to fulfil its potential.

The TTC closed the temporary streetcar loop and sealed off the walkway in 1968 when the Bloor-Danforth extensions to Islington and Warden opened.

The walkway was sealed up after the streetcar loop was removed, a couple years later.

However unlikely, that space could be repurposed as an incline elevator. The incline goes down to the wrong entrance, the Indian Road entrance, not the much more busier Keele Street entrance. Maybe the incline elevator could be used at some other station.

So far St. Patrick station got one elevator in service Platform to Concourse but still in construction for the elevator that goes Street to Concourse and parking.

One idea I’ve had is that the 404 route terminate at Greenwood rather than turn down Coxwell when passing East General. At present there is no northbound service from Greenwood (and given the road width and other factors, is unlikely to ever see a 40 foot service) and meanwhile the 404 has to share the busy Coxwell loop with 70/22. However, without elevators in service there is no point in suggesting this to TTC yet given the social function the 404 performs.

As noted on TTC website: "The 480 University Avenue developer is building the street to concourse level elevator (E2), the new accessible entrance and underground connection to the subway. The street to concourse level elevator (E2) is expected to be in-service by the end of 2018."

Chester Station - elevator construction
Starting as early as August 20, 2018
Work description and purpose
Starting as early as August 20, construction of the Easier Access elevators at Chester Station will begin. Two new elevators will be constructed on the west side of the main station. Utility work within TPA lot 87 will also take place.

What to expect and work hours
  • Activities will include the excavation, shoring and concrete pouring of the two elevator shafts.
  • Noise and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. The contractor will work to keep both to a minimum.
  • A work zone will be set up in the Toronto Parking Authority Lot - No.87 as early as August 15 to carry out utility work. Access to the laneway will not be possible from the parking lot, but it will remain accessible from Ainsworth Road to the north. The laneway south of the parking lot will remain accessible from the south entrance.
  • Delivery of large equipment and materials to the site will take place as early as August 15.
  • Work hours are scheduled Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some weekend work may be required at times. Some delivery of equipment and materials will take place after 7 p.m.
Pedestrian, Cycling and Vehicular Access
  • Access to the main entrance of Chester Station will be maintained during construction.
  • The pedestrian walkway north of the station will remain accessible as long as safely possible during construction.
  • The Bike Share station north of the station will remain accessible as long as safely possible during construction.
  • Vehicular traffic will be maintained on Chester Avenue.
  • Two-way traffic on Arundel Avenue will be permitted up to the parking lot entrance only.

Christie Station Easier Access project land surveying
Starting as early as Monday, July 30, 2018
Project description and purpose
The TTC’s Easier Access Program makes stations accessible for everyone with the addition of new elevators.

Two elevators are planned at the existing main entrance at Christie Station (exact locations are to be determined). One elevator will go from street level to concourse, down to the westbound platform. A second elevator will connect the concourse level to the eastbound platform.

As a first step in the elevator design process, Christie Station and the local area will be surveyed. Station improvements construction is currently scheduled to be completed by 2023.

Land surveying and related activities
Survey activities involve gathering accurate measurements of the area, which may include having contracted field staff in the vicinity placing surveying markers at property corners and elsewhere. During the course of survey activities, field staff will attempt to contact some building occupants directly should access be required to private property, such as backyards.

Old Mill Station Easier Access Project land surveying
Starting the week of July 30, 2018
Project description and purpose
TTC’s Easier Access Program makes subway stations accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of mobility with the addition of new elevators (at the main entrance). New elevators are planned for Old Mill Station in order to take customers from street level to platform level.

As a first step in the design process for the new elevators, Old Mill Station and the local area will be surveyed.

Land surveying and related activities
Activities may include field staff gathering measurements and placing survey markers at property corners and elsewhere. Field staff will attempt to contact building/home occupants directly should access to private areas be required. In most instances, access to properties is for a short duration. The field crew will consist of staff wearing reflective vests.

Survey area
Staff will be surveying the surrounding area of the station east of Old Mill Trail, and in King’s Mill Park beneath the subway up until the western edge of the parking lot.

Expected survey dates and hours
Beginning in the station the week of July 30, 2018, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., surveyors will be present in the Old Mill Station area (weather permitting).

Rosedale Station - Easier Access Project
Preliminary borehole testing starting as early as October 11, 2018 to October 31, 2018
Project description and purpose
The TTC’s Easier Access Program makes stations accessible for everyone with the addition of new elevators. Rosedale Station is currently scheduled to be accessible by 2025. As a first step in the design process, Rosedale Station and the local area’s soil and groundwater conditions will be investigated.

Initial borehole testing work details
  • Prior to construction, borehole tests are required. Boreholes obtain information from the underground soil and groundwater conditions within the vicinity of the future elevator location. The information obtained will inform the design of future underground structures.
  • Small work zones will be set up in the borehole areas and metal plates will be used to cover the holes within the City right-of-way on Crescent roadway/bridge area, on the sloping retaining wall beside the station and on TTC property. Some trees and bushes planted on the sloping retaining wall will be trimmed to allow for this work.
  • Each borehole will take approximately 5 days to complete (weather pending).
  • Construction crews and vacuuming equipment will be present along Crescent Road and trucks/equipment will remain overnight. During the day, some construction noise is expected.
  • Pedestrian detours will be in place. For safety reasons, please cross the street at the traffic signals at the Yonge Street intersection.
Noise and vibration
Noise and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. The contractor will work to keep both to a minimum.

Work hours
Most work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with some extensions outside of these hours in order to complete the work as quickly as possible.
