I am in shock that there are 29 stops between dufferin and cherry, including the famous Simcoe and Victoria stops. Not sure what is supposed for.

Simcoe & Victoria exist today, Tomorrow they are gone.I am in shock that there are 29 stops between dufferin and cherry, including the famous Simcoe and Victoria stops. Not sure what is supposed for.
Not sure what there is to be shocked about, really. It's a local route, not an express--given the traffic lights and cross streets there isn't much useful stop reduction to be done. Simcoe and Victoria are slated for removal soon.
You are assuming the streetcar will meet every red light so there is no time wasted in stopping before each of them for unloading. If Simcoe and Victoria are already slated to be removed, why bother having these two stops on day 1 of service? Just because 504 does? None of it makes any sense.
What exactly is a "local" route? Does 400-500 meter spacing constitute "express" service?
Today is the day the stops are removed, the start of a new TTC board and the actual start of any new TTC services. The media fooled everyone that yesterday the line started running. The media also fooled everyone with the new streetcar used for that special trip. Guess what, all 5 cars on the route are CLRVs.You are assuming the streetcar will meet every red light so there is no time wasted in stopping before each of them for unloading. I took a walk down it this afternoon and it looks lie it's going to be just as bad as queens quay if not worse. As soon as I got of the king streetcar I saw a car stopped in the middle of the streetcar tracks and three cars back by the stop bar waiting at the light about 20 feet or more from the intersection. I also saw sever vehicles drive on the streetcar right of way One car almost caused an accident as it turned of of it into the road. I relly hope this is the last time the TTC allows the city to make a side right of way
You can have a reverse red arrow light?
The spot I worry about is the left-hand turn from King Street heading west to Sumach heading south. And I took a walk early this morning and I am pleased to report back that every car, truck, bike and streetcar seemed to be getting it right. I walked from the loop to King and Sumach and back. All's well.
And it's in service this morning. Even on Nextbus already.
5 CLRVs out right now.

There's not much signage indicating where you should be, other than the rather high-up no entry signs, which I think are a bit far down.
Someone just following the tracks is in for a surprise. Someone who mistakes the median for being between the two lanes may end up heading south in the northbound car lane.
I think a bit more signage and paint would solve all that.
I guess time will tell.
Somehow all of the US, plus pretty much every else I've traveled in the world uses the red arrow. Even color blind people can recognize the relative positions of the lights, i.e. red on top and green on bottom. Canada is pretty much the only place I've ever seen that doesn't use red arrows, so I'm sure people would adapt.I have to agree with nfitz. If I came upon a red arrow, I might do something stupid. But clarity in signalling at an intersection like Queens Quay and Rees with traffic, traffic left turn, transit (streetcar), bicycle and pedestrian is urgent. Five sets of signals at QQ and Rees is over the top.
