Toronto Western Hospital addition: Krembil Discovery Centre (9s, Stantec/NXL)

Are these cranes for the hospital expansion? Wasn't sure..

From that perspective - looks like the cranes for the Fashion House building on King Street West.

Here is one from today:

They are putting finishing touches. Not sure when they will open it though.

Wandering past this building on the 17th, I realized that 'd never seen more philanthropic largesse covering the outside of any other building —

along with the Krembil Research Centre, the Bathurst Street side of Toronto Western sports these other names;
  • Tanz Centre for Research n Neurodegenerative Disease
  • Bucharn Arthritis Research Centre
  • Joey & Toby Tanenbaum Family Gamma Knife Centre
  • John and Myrna Daniels Foundation Centre of Excellence in Intra-Operative Neurosurgical Education
  • Paul B. Helliwell Atrium
  • Fraser M. Fell Pavilion
  • Loretta Anne Rogers Critical Care Centre

Quite a bit! Have I missed any on the other walls of the hospital?

PS: notable on a day when earlier I was at the opening of the One Spadina Daniels Building at the U of T, and there are the Daniels' names here again. No idea how much money the family has donated to important causes in this city ($24 M at the U of T), but has any other developer put more into the city? Peter Gilgan from Mattamy, yes, are there others?

TWH looks ripe for another expansion - and it has some footprint to do so.

I don't know about the more part, but the Lebovic family has put in quite a bit into Mount Sinai.

Ontario Improving Access to Care with Major Expansion of Toronto Western Hospital
December 4, 2017

Province Increasing Capacity for Surgeries and Post-Operative Care
Ontario is increasing access to high-quality care for patients and families by expanding space for surgeries and post-operative care offered at University Health Network's Toronto Western Hospital site.

Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, was at the hospital today to announce the redevelopment project.

The expansion will address the growing demand for care by increasing operating room capacity and redeveloping the space for both pre-operative services and post-operative care. As the hospital uses state-of-the-art technology to conduct research and offer pioneering treatments, the project will also modernize existing infrastructure to be able to adapt to changing technology.

Toronto Western Hospital offers a wide range of surgeries, including transplant, cancer, eye, spine, head and neck, musculoskeletal, general and plastic. The hospital also houses Ontario's largest neurosurgical program providing care for patients with highly complex conditions. The surgeons at Toronto Western Hospital are well known for their advanced training in their specialties and perform some of the most technically difficult procedures in the world.

Building and expanding hospitals is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

QUICK FACTS
  • Toronto Western Hospital’s Sprott Department of Surgery is one of the largest surgical programs in Canada, performing more than 25,000 operations annually in 39 staffed operating rooms.
  • In October, Ontario announced funding for over 2,000 additional beds and spaces across the province this year. This investment includes 20 additional beds for University Health Network to provide access to care and reduce wait times, whether in hospital, at home or in the community.
  • Ontario is making the largest investment in hospitals, schools, public transit, roads and bridges in the province's history – more than $190 billion in public infrastructure over 13 years, starting in 2014-15. To learn more about what's happening in your community, go to Ontario.ca/BuildON.
