They could not have: the City wants the low-rise stores on Yonge retained, and they don't want a lot more shadow on Yonge. What we want to see is those stores get some clean-up done to them, though.The tower's podium should have had a presence at Yonge Street in my opinion.

This building is boxy behind the curving balconies? Really?Curves and/or undulating wrap around balcony designs on a boxy form aren't that much of a departure for Toronto. This one is virtually a sister development to One Bloor with both standing plus 200 metres tall north of Carlton.
We will be getting our fair share of boxy glass podiums along this stretch of Yonge before you know it.
