Something like the Alain Ducasse five star restaurant atop The Mandalay Bay Hotel in Vegas, would be perfect here. I was hoping STOCK at Trump Toronto would be a good alternative to Canoe, but sadly the tables are too far from the windows and they had sheer curtains blocking out the view, also the food/service wasn't nearly as good as it is at Canoe.

Oxford's president gave a brief (2-3 minute) update/synopsis of this project at the Toronto Real Estate Forum which was held at the South Building over the last 2 days.

He first emphasized that they are not pushing the idea of a casino on Toronto and are staying out of the discussion about whether there should be one. In his/their view, that is a decision for the City of Toronto to make.

Once that decision is made, however, and if the answer is yes, he believes the project that they would propose at the convention centre would, and should be, a leading candidate for the facility and that it has the best econcomic prospects for the city.

Love the new towers and the potential they bring, however, our once pyramid skyline is now a big block of Swiss cheese, full of gaps and holes, with huge new towers places sparatically through the downtown core and west along King. I know I'm being stupid, and I really am thrilled to see our first supertall proposal, just wish it was more symmetric.
 
I have to disagree, Hanlansboy. I think the asymmetric look actually makes the skyline look much bigger. Its like "here's the main cluster, but wait, there's a lot more too." If that makes any sense.

Makes sense to me...I also like the organic, asymmetric look...
 
From an aesthetic point of view, best thing about these new towers is that people will not focus on those ugly waterfront condos any more. I really hope both projects will happen. This will take Toronto to a different league.

Honestly FCP tower is boring, especially after being the pinnacle of Toronto for 35 years.

I have to agree on all counts. The fact that FCP has been the dominate tower all these years is a
testament to boring buildings. It's great things are changing. The boring green glass condo craze can come to an end anytime.
I hope at least one of these projects get built, but I'm not holding my breath.

A couple of points on your comment - Chow - if she ran and won - would still be only one vote on council. Our mayors don't have the kind of executive powers that American mayors do. I don't know that she would dismiss this outright. She would be diligent and ask for due process to be considered (e.g., if gambling addictions increase, is our system prepared for it? If not, what do they need in place so that people get services they need). I would not assume that just because someone sits on the left, they would be opposed to a development like this. I am pretty left and I support this project and its location fully - like many others on the left, likely do. I knew Jack very well and I know Olivia - both would agree that smoking and alcohol use are bad for our health...but they would not agree to ban them. She may very well view such a project in the same light. Olivia is also an urbanist and she would not ignore the significant benefit of this proposal for Toronto's future.

Not to say that I don't support chow, I do. But I have a feeling she will be much less likely to support this project than ford. Ford came out in support for it immediately after hearing about it, while Chow will likely wait, and possibly deny it. If chow does indeed become mayor, she would likely hold much more sway on council than Ford did as I have a feeling she would manage to keep control of council in a much better way than Ford. (I.e. no voting opposite of the mayor for the heck of it like when they had the plastic bag ban) I am willing to sacrifice this casino if it means a progressive mayor with an actual plan for the future of the city, though I would preferably have both.
 
When comparing some of the stunning supertalls being built around the world, what we've been getting is more than bland. This project finally competes esthetically and it would certainly move T.O. up a notch or two. Why would anyone oppose a private concern injecting billions into the economy?

On second thought, perhaps you're right, when I think about it, in time, the gaps between the towers will be filled in by other projects. I do love Oxfords and Gehrys proposals, particularly the new twin supertalls. I won't get my hopes up though, if I've learned anything from this site, it's that seldom does any proposal get built exactly as first designed, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, just imagine, if built as planned, how impressive so many new 200 meter+ will look in our constantly evolving skyline. I swear it changes ever few weeks. I was driving home from Niagara yesterday, the view along the Gardiner is awesome, and constantly changing, just one off topic thing that I find so strange, I can see right into people's condos from the road, almost at eye level, as I sat there, stuck in traffic (as usual) I could clearly see a very scary looking woman wearing only panties (no bra) cooking in her kitchen, yikes! Lol! Perfect for exibitionists! Not so good for traffic, kind of catches you off guard.

Presumably because the injection comes with strings attached/preconditions.
