Hamilton TD Coliseum Renovations | ?m | 4s | OVG | BBB

You haven't given an example of a sports facility that had a strictly exterior reno... anyway, not important.
Why does it have to be exterior only? There are plenty of examples of sports facilities doing a reno of the interior and exterior... which could be TD Coliseum as well. Does it matter that the interior was done first, and then exterior later? Other facilities spent money on exterior renos when they didn't have to - could've just left it at interior only since, as you put it, it serves no purpose than just aesthetics. They just chose to do them both at the same time.

I would consider the video screen addition to be a functional rather than aesthetic upgrade, and certainly not a reno. The building looks essentially the same before and after.
To be fair, they also added an entire section of building. Not a major aesthetic change but it definitely looks different. To the original point, There could easily be a point down the road where a similar improvement is made to the Coliseum that changes the look of the exterior as well.

This particular renovation was primarily focused on the interior.

Someone brought up the idea of an exterior reno.

It is not likely that that happens any time soon on its own. And any future large-scale interior/exterior reno of this building is decades away, if it ever even happens.

So: I wouldn't bank on the building looking very different any time soon. Or not so soon. Or maybe ever.

Fair enough. I think they did mention "exterior (along with interior)" but it's not important. I'm just happy there's an arena that can host large scale events as an alternative to Toronto. Hoping for lots of success and selfishly maybe a WWE event or two as it would be nice to make the trip in from Burlington and it be a tad less busy of a city.

Cool cool :)

The WWE is heading to Buffalo and to Montreal for different events in January. I don't know.if anything else local and/or in Canada is coming up

I've gone a few times to both spots and to the big shows in T.O. It actually has stopped in Hamilton a few times over the years including the first Royal Rumble way back in 1988 (before my time) and had a bunch of TV tapings at Copps during the big boom of the 1998-2001.

Hoping it can reclaim its glory as a destination for some solid shows. The crowd is definitely an interesting bunch but they fill arenas, travel well and spend a ton. I'd expect AEW to also add the arena to their schedule.

(I realize "pro" wrestling is ridiculous but it's a guilty pleasure that I share with family. Plus it's hilariously awesome live).

The exterior really isn't that bad. Once the rest of the lighting is added and the underside of the 'bowl' is illuminated, along with the TD logos, this will look great. The pedestrian level along York Blvd. is a MAJOR upgrade, as you're able to see into the arena, whereas before it was just a wall of stairs past the doors for the entire length of the street.

No photo, but they have a nice looking "TD Coliseum" sign up on the York Blvd frontage. It's internally lit with projecting individual letters (white on the face and TD green on the side).

Aren't West Harbour and Hamilton GO pretty much the same distance from there? Would probably be a lot easier to add that extra service at WH, I doubt we'll ever see evening departures at Hamilton GO. I don't think it has ever happened in the 20+ years that I've lived here.

Not to get too off-topic, because it very easily could… Generally speaking no, GO was and is only able to run trains during rush hour to Hamilton Centre.

What I do wonder now, is if it’s cheaper to pay CP whatever price for miscellaneous time slots (that must exist if you watch the corridor) than have our hands tied until we someday expand the tunnel.

It’d be great if Metrolinx could arrange for a GO train to depart Hamilton Centre roughly 20 minutes after major events at TD Coliseum. Without that, few will make the extra trip to West Harbour, and most will likely choose to drive instead.

They are around the same walking distance depending on where you start. If you cut through Jackson Square from the northwest corner of the arena you can walk to Hamilton Centre's closest entry off James North in about 800 metres.. but going out the main entrance of the Arena onto York then straight up Bay St to West Harbour is only around 900 metres. Most passengers will go to West Harbour as it's only like a minutes extra walking, has much better train service, and is a less complicated route. Walking from the main Hamilton GO station building on Hunter to the front entrance of the arena at Bay and York without cutting through Jackson Square is actually a longer walk than from West Harbour.. around 1km.

The sidewalks on Bay St are going to be pretty overloaded after an event, I think. they are designed to be a quiet residential street and will have hundreds of people streaming down after an event now.
