Toronto Sherway Gardens Expansion | ?m | 2s | Cadillac Fairview | DIALOG

The Holt's expansion was very much a part of the Sherway Gardens plan, but it seems that negotiations have ended and Holt's is leaving Sherway.

Seems stupid to me too.

It is very strange.. Sherway and Square One are light years apart in demographics served. Those soccer moms from Oakville are not going to start going to Square One, that's a none starter for them... This can backfire for Holts - an aspirational brand of that stature should never be in a mall anchored by discount retailers.

Oxford must have enticed them with some sort of exclusivity clause. For better leases they have to be in Oxford malls within the GTA?

Anyway, this is simply a stupid move for Holts, and if CF was unable to negotiate given the cachet of Sherway, then it's even more embarrassing to all involved.

I'm excited about the Sherways Gardens expansion project as I live in the neighbourhood and go there a lot. What I don't understand is that the expansion looks out of place and does not fit in with the current mall design. I always thought that the expansion would have added a second floor to the existing structure. Is the owners of the mall intention or long term goal to slowly replace the older parts of the mall and rebuild to catch up with the more recent expansion or is this the only option available because the older parts of the mall can not accomodate a second floor because it was not designed to support a second floor level and that this way is doing things is the most cost effective way to accomodate mall expansion.

Thanks

Dang I hope they aren't ditching the Hudson's Bay logo entirely, as this one looks like it's pulled out of the 60s-70s a la the Wells Fargo logo.

I parked in the first section of the parking structure that opened last week. Nice and bright with good LED lighting and white walls. Not very much is open yet so unless they really speed things up, Christmas parking is still going to be a nightmare.

I saw the cones off to the side on Thursday night but didn't think the western most portion of the upper deck was open. They desperately need to open as much as they can as parking at Sherway can be a nightmare at the best of times.

I'm curious to know what will become of the east end where Sears is. Would make a perfect Saks location.

Why isn't this in the Lowrise section? That place's woefully underpopulated at the moment.

Because Sherway Gardens is not particularly residential.
