Monarch has just started advertising for the 24 storey condo to be built on the site of Tip Top II.

Not much news on it so far, coming soon...

My personal take on it having had a number of discussions with those involved was that her battle was almost 100% about politics and virtually nothing to do with the merits of the application itself.... yet another example of why Ontario needs the OMB.

Chow is a leftist extremist deeply opposed to any kind of private enterprise, therefore it is not surprising to see her fight this proposal.
 
So, if the government wanted to put up a fifty-five storey tower with its anchor tenants being Social Services, The Ministry Of Health, The Communist Party Of Canada (presumably) with a panoramic homeless shelter and revolving soup kitchen on this site, she would have fought for it?
 
No, she just wouldn't have fought against it. That's how it works, right?
 
I"ve always thought that it would be veryfunny to propose a publicly-funded sixty-storey homeless shelter to see how these socialist nimbys would react.
 
Personally, I wonder how the Tory nimby's would deal with it! Especially if it was a private sector initiative.
That'd be a pickle.

The biggest NIMBYs (i.e. North Toronto residents and these waterfront condo-dwellers) are hardly socialists.

Somehow, I highly doubt that the individuals living in the area are particularly inclined towards socialism. Perhaps one would have a better chance in say North Toronto?

Anyways, the reality that Chow tends to be a naysayer distracts from the real issue of merit with regards to this proposal, which is, do we necessarily think that a 20s building is appropriate right at the edge of the waterfront.

Actually, the individuals living in the heart of Bathurst Quay itself *are* particularly inclined t/w socialism. That's because of its development as a token St. Lawrence-type "affordable" neighbourhood in the 80s (co-ops, artist's rez, etc)
