Toronto Pearson International Airport

And the result is hideous. I did an AC connection at YUL on Tuesday. With the delays, crowds, queued-up and stinky bathrooms, and walking across the tarmac in snow and wind, it was one of the worst aviation experiences I've had in the developed world.
I had no issues flying to Athens through YUL from YYZ this past June. If you fly enough, you'll have a range of experiences in "good" and "bad" airports

Just wanted to share my recent experience in Terminal 1 from a couple days ago.

First time being in this terminal. All of my experience with Pearson is from terminal 3 for all my recent domestic travelling.

Terminal 1 seemed smaller. Which seems strange because it handles all the international flights. It was very busy, but I was still able to easily walk back and forth between E71 and E79. Then at 8pm all hell seemed to break loose. A whole bunch of flights started boarding, and suddenly it became impossible to navigate the E70 portion of the terminal.

Qeues to gates started spilling out across the terminal and qeues next to each other started mixing into other qeues. The terminal suddenly became crowded.

Traveller's were clearly confused, not sure which line they were supposed to be in, stumbling around with luggage and screaming children, bumping into other people.

I watched as 3 seperate qeues for Paris, Amsterdam and Istanbul essentially turned into a giant mass of people, and the airport staff were frantically trying to sort everyone out. Economy fliers lining up in the business class line, people with strollers missing the earlier request to board, etc.

Thankfully my flight wasn't until 11:35pm, so I got to watch all the madness ensue. My flight was out of gate E72. There is no room for qeueing in this part of the terminal.

I know that Montreal is adding a lot of flights on the roster. The question is are they also expanding the airport? I know YYZ is expanding, but Air Canada is adding a lot of international flights in Montreal. In the summertime just entering the airport at YUL sometime takes over an hour. The on-ramp.. once I had to get out of the car to walk over

You could very easily have answered your question yourself but by Googling I found this : https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/airport-montreal-construction-1.7163735 and https://www.admtl.com/en-CA/corporate/about-us/future-projects

Seems okay to ask questions rather than trying to google research something.

On the other hand I just learned that Ontario is building a tunnel underneath the 401, and at Pearson they are building a new facility east of Airport Road to replace the terminals! So perhaps there's a benefit to doing original research! :)

I have no problem helping people find things that are 'hidden' but, based on the philosophy of "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." it seemed better to explain that @Vatch could have (very easily) answered his/her question.

I'm not sure I agree. There's so many announcements that are made - particularly in Quebec, to do a project that never happens. It seems like a fair question to me.

From the links you posted, they are building a parking lot at Trudeau. Nothing about the terminals - as I assume we can't take the Master Plan seriously, given how different the Pearson master plans whenever there's a new one.

Pearson has always been a mess for this for some reason. I noticed that flying Air Canada out of YYZ is super messy with everyone getting in line way before their group is called, whereas a smaller airport like YVR, with Air Canada as well, was much more organized and people actually lined up when they were supposed to. Not sure why it was so different. Maybe YVR has more space for queuing, even though overall it's smaller.

Part of the problem at some airports, is there's nowhere to sit, so everyone is standing around to begin with. And then those few sitting also join the crowd because they think something is happening.

Have never been through T3 Domestic. T3 International is tiny in comparison to T1, though T1 feels more claustrophobic than T3 due to all the retail they have shoehorned into T1. Trying to walk across the hammerhead (from E73 to E79) can be an adventure during peak periods.

I wish the GTAA had used the upper level of the terminal for their retail rather than tranfers and kept the main concourse area more open. Rome for example has most of it's restaurants and lounges on separate level, almost like a food court'ish set up.

Just flew FCO a few weeks ago, and had mostly positive thoughts about it. The walks can be long connecting, especially non-Schengen to Schengen, but signage was great (much better than the improved YYZ way finding), and the overall passenger flow was much better as well. FCO outsources nothing, while YYZ (and so many other airports in North America) outsource retail to OTG. OTG is a scourge, and their food service model has ruined T1 and T3 international departures.

All flights suspended at Pearson airport, multiple injuries reported after plane crashes; At least 2 passengers transported to nearby hospitals

A plane has crashed at Toronto Pearson International Airport and Peel Regional Police are responding, a spokesperson confirmed.

4 p.m.Minutes before the crash, around 2:08 p.m., air traffic control at Pearson directs the Delta flight to contact the air traffic control tower.
Then, about five minutes later, air traffic control tells another flight that its approach clearance has been cancelled.

“Runway 23 is currently closed,” a controller says to another plane. “It’s gonna be a little while here.”

3:57 p.m. 80 people were reportedly on the plane.

3:52 p.m. Two passengers with serious injuries were transported to nearby hospitals, including one taken to SickKids, a Peel police spokesperson said. No fatalities have been reported, they said.
3:42 p.m. According to Flightradar24, the plane — a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis — arrived at Pearson at 2:13 p.m. The plane, a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR, has room for about 75 passengers.
3:31 p.m. One pediatric patient was transported to hospital with critical injuries according to ORNGE. The emergency response service said they do not have information on any other transported patients yet.

ORNGE said they sent three helicopters and two critical care ambulances.

3:20 p.m. Most of the passengers are out
Police could not comment on any injuries but said that “most of the passengers are out.”
