Toronto Maple Leaf Square | 185.92m | 54s | Lanterra | KPMB

So Maple Leaf Square actually reference the hockey team?? I somehow always thought it's referencing Canada. Lol...

Poor Raps will always be second...

I always thought Maple Leaf Square was a reference to MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment).

For the remark about the raps being second , thats slowly changing:

But if you move away from the NATIONAL numbers, and look at the PROVINCIAL numbers alone … Ontario teens are moving away from hockey even more … and in Toronto specifically, they’re jumping on things like Basketball (NBA) and Soccer. In 1992, 40% of teens expressed interest in the NHL. In 2008, that number stood at 28%.

And here are those TORONTO numbers I was talking about (2008):

NBA - 32%
Soccer (no LEAGUE specified) - 25%
NHL - 20%
NFL - 19%
MLB - 13%
CFL - 8%

In drum's second picture from Aug. 14, there seems to be a stack of these maple leaves under the bridge. It seems then that they were precast and are simply being laid down where convenient. It's still a cool idea though - I hope the rest of the paving is done in brick.

Your wish is granted, they are laying bricks right now. :)

The maple leafs seem to be being poured on site - they poured one this morning outside the new Union Station entrance and used a maple-leaf-shaped metal mold. I did not see others being poured but think they are probably all poured on site so doubt Drum's pic shows a pile of them.
