Went across the bridge today.

The pictures don't do it justice. Sounds cheesy but the best word I can use to describe it is 'whimsical', particularly when you look around and can see the river valley, pedestrian bridge, and canoe cove.

Truly exciting.

Came down for the Polson skyline reflection shot and came away with new bridge pics! (Wasn’t aware it opened). All I can say is ‘Yowzers’!

Northwards from north side of bridge…

The sidewalk is wide and widens further in a curving arc along the bridge.

Yes, that is a particularly stupid posting; they are still working at the Cherry/Commissioners intersection and at the Cherry/Polson intersection and the bascule bridge is one-way-at-a-time as IT is being repaired.

To that end, I haven't really been able to figure it out from either construction notices or pics: as it stands today, how does one riding a bike get from, say, the MGT eastbound from Parliament, to the yellow bridges? Is that part of Cherry by the old channel now open to cyclists? Or is there still a detour?

The MGT remains as it was going south across the Keating Channel right down to the (new) section of Commissioners Street that runs WEST of Cherry Street.

On Cherry you no longer cross Cherry at Commissioners (where the BBQ is) but turn right along the new block of Commissioners that turns south at the bridge (the new alignment of Cherry.)

On south side of the bridge you reach Polson Street which you cross at the lights and then cross (old) Cherry to rejoin the existing MGT.

Yesterday there were still a few minor adjustments but I suspect all is 'final' today.

I happened to be in the area and decided to check it out. I didn't snap any pics as I was in my car but will go back on my bike later for a more detailed inspection. My reaction though is it looks really good. In particular, the view crossing the bridge while travelling North is amazing. The bridge feels luxurious on its own but then when you cross it and see the ever changing cityscape view, it kicks it up a notch. Also, there is more greenery in the future park than I expected (probably weeds...but still green!) so it helps give you an idea of how sweet this will be when the park is finished too.

Very happy with how this is all turning out!

I passed through last night. There was a particularly busy event taking place at Rebel, with cars backed-up all along Polson in both directions (and hundreds of people arriving on foot or via TTC). Any traffic that was heading further south was stuck in the queue of vehicles waiting to turn right at Polson. Not ideal, but also not indicative of normal traffic patterns.

I checked out the new bridge today

As mentioned, Cherry St is closed at Commissioner, where the BBQ is. From there, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians heading southbound have to turn right (west). The road curves south and takes you to the new bridge. Where the curve is, there will eventually be a junction, with the new realigned Cherry St taking you to Lake Shore over the double red bridges. The pic below shows the curve and double bridges
