Dexia had sold its 50% share of RBC Dexia Investor Services by 27 July 2012. The sign change is indicative of a broader shift in the 'firm.'

The Shangri-La Toronto is currently operating approximately 50 hotel rooms and that number will double on October 1, 2012.

Not cheap! Executive Room $540, a night Premier Room $565, They will have some serious competition when the Four Seasons opens.

Why are these new hotel prices inflated so much? How are they better than staying at the Royal York?

nice angle! Love the density layers!

What's up with RBC Centre's logo? maintenance?

Typically 5 star hotels have better service and amenities than say a 4 star hotel like the Royal York or Hilton. Also supply and demand play a big part too. That's why New York City can charge $500 a night for a 3 star hotel and Las Vegas charges $180 a night for a 5 star hotel.

Shangri-La, Ritz, and Trump, prices are comparable to other American cities 5 star hotels.

The 50 rooms are part of a "soft" opening. They were/are fully booked for the entire month of September.

FYI.....The whole biz is doing very well. On a days notice last week I needed to book a room. Within the Downtown all I could find/was offered was Townwood suites at $349/night or the Grand at a 4-figure price.

Every other hotel was booked/overbooked (a friend @ Starwood told me they were crossing theirfingers that some people did not show up they were "way overbooked").

Wonder y they're so busy. Is business up in the city? r they booked by tourists? Is tourism up in the city?

September is a busy time for tourist in the city plus TIFF brings in people from all around the world.

That's a new sign. Remember, the north and south ends of the tower had the Dexia logo. It appears that now the RBC logo will be on all sides of the building.

Last week was post-TIFF.....no one seemed able to explain. Typically mid September is not "great".....good but not great.

Having passed the site several times the hotel looks very busy. Momofuku is packed, Bosk seems to be doing well, and cars are constantly coming in. Looks like a great success thus far.

Shangri-La's dining options (Bosk and Momofuku) appear to be higher end (and higher priced) than Ritz and Trump, although Four Seasons' Daniel Boulud reaturant may be comparable. Found a blog post showing photos of the food at Momofuku Shoto, which serves a $150/person tasting menu. According to this other blog, it's even more expensive (with tax and tip) than Chang's equivalent NY restaurant, Momofuku Ko.
