I’m between jobs, as they say, so took Monday to cycle the Toronto Islands. Packed a lunch and cycled down River St’s separated bike lane and through Corktown Common to Queens Quay.

The flooding is really something. Stopped for lunch by the waterside. Took Ward’s ferry out and Hanlan’s Point ferry back.

Visited the Islands today with the family. Holy jeez, has the City let this place slide. The fountains on the main promenade to the pier are nonfunctional and filth strewn, bushes and undergrowth are unkept, and there’s litter all over the beaches on Olympic Island. The change rooms beside the pier are busted up and taped off. Even the ferries themselves need a lick of paint and rust scraping. Yes I understand the flooding caused some challenges on landscaping, but one can’t help but feel that the Islands are being ignored and are in decline.
