I like it, but to crack that old chestnut again--I can't imagine no one the building next door on the east side isn't lamenting the dramatic loss of light. It is what it is, it's a city, etc. I agree. I'm just saying--it's something I'd avoid at all costs when looking for a place.
 
Oh for sure—when looking for places for both living and investment, I tend always to A) Assess future development potential around the unit; and B) Avoid long, linear floorplans, as literally all of Museum House's are. Still, as you suggested, I have little sympathy for folks who did buy in there.
 
Yep, me too. That being said, 'it's a city' just means that future development is something that might be hard to avoid. But I find this conjunction of buildings to be a particularly bad example. The folks on the east- and west-facing sides of each building will quite literally never get sunlight. I'm just not sure how that's worth it when we're talking premium prices for units in each building.

Yeah—I could be wrong but I think MH has only half- or full-floor units, so at least all residents have a full north- or south-facing frontage. There are a bunch of buildings along that stretch of bloor (vaguely Spadina to Yonge) where older buildings actually physically abut each other, and I suspect we'll see more of that in the coming years (NYC is of course famous for the degree to which it's widespread there).

Even in TO, you see some examples of developers/architects anticipating that, insofar as they construct side walls with either few small or no windows—Fabrik and Pier 27 immediately come to mind (though the latter is obviously because of Redpath, not in anticipation of future development).

The cases along Bloor I'm super interested to see unfold are 80 Bloor and the building next to it, at the NW corner of Bay/Bloor; unless there's some sort of additional sale-to-come, we could wind up with two massive towers touching one another there.

All of these units in Museum House were built with either north or south exposure, so there are no units there that will have windows only facing Exhibit. Essentially, this is no different than if these two buildings were smack right up against each other with units only facing the street, which is standard fare in cities with strong streetwalls.

I really like this building, but I noticed yesterday that from the south you can't quite make out the asymmetry of the top two blocks. The building looks flush. I think just a slight contrast in the balcony glass on each block would have made the building jump out a lot more when looking at it head on.
