especially with the broadview extension taking a significant chunk of the lot.

I'm sure BMW isn't too happy right now. That building isn't that old, they probably haven't financed it fully yet and the city is pushing for it to be demoed.

Broadview extension will run some distance away from the dealership though - and I hope the Quandrangle slab portion gets saved - it is fairly iconic in its' own right.

BMW (owner?) won the lottery here. The land price will go through the roof once this is all approved. I wouldn't be unhappy about any of it.

That it will, but the owner is ultimately a dealer and not a real estate company, They probably just wants to operate in peace.

I know I remember reading somewhere that they were not happy with the plans for the broadview extension to go right through the middle of their lot.

The lot can easily be moved into a garage, with new money-making development on top of it. If they haven't realized that by now, they're fools.

Am I correct that the dealership still owns the land upon which the Broadview extension is supposed to go?

If so, this is an obvious case of car salesmen being car salesmen - it's a negotiation. Of course they have won the lottery, but acting happy about it will not get them maximum compensation for the land the City needs.
 
Well the city has a card which most cases don't - expropriation.

What people were more thinking I think is the sale value of two remaining pieces after broad view is extended and the RL station build.

But why would/should the city do that, beyond what's necessary to build the infrastructure in the event of an uncooperative property owner?
