Toronto Crosstown LRT: Eglinton Station | ?m | 1s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

No there are zero plans. Battery technology would be horrible for LRT or streetcar service. Not reliable enough and also just a dumb thing to do.
Not to get off-topic but there are streetcars that use batteries.

I was recently in Seville, Spain and their system has no overhead wires for a large portion of the line. The battery charges in 30 seconds at streetcar stops. There are several functional and aesthetic advantages, so it's not a dumb thing to do.

This technology has recently been installed in Newcastle, Australia and Luxembourg as well.

As battery technology improves, we should absolutely look into this possibility. Imagine having no overhead wires.

The trade-off involved for eliminating wires for aesthetics is not worth it for the trade-off for reliability, maintenance, cost etc.

Fencing around the paving stones on the northeast side of the intersection was finally taken away today, opening up the full width of the sidewalk.

A look at the basement floor under the Bazis development on the northeast corner. Looks like seating and space for retail/additional food court options. The doors on the left connect to Yonge-Eglinton Centre food court.

From the same food court, facing south.

Lastly, southeast underground corner, under the CIBC building, facing west.

Seeing the beautiful pavers and the ugly utilitarian street lights together in those photos is jarring. It's like putting in a beautiful floor in your bathroom and then installing a janitor's closet sink as your sink. This is where our local brand of fiscal conservatism leaves us, in a weird state of success and poverty.
