This brick treatment is ... not my fave. I'm glad it's not grey, but the cheapness of the pre-cast panels and their shoddy placement makes me feel like this building is trying to give me a migraine. This could have been much more polished if the patterning had been done in real brick.
 
The variation in colour between this building and its neighbours is a refreshing change of pace from the current practice among developers to make every building in an area grey.

You see it at CityPlace, Humber Bay Shores, in the Entertainment District, and among numerous contemporary townhouse projects.

Changing up the colour palette from building to building can make for a more organic and sophisticated look, as long as the colours of the buildings harmonize.

I am waiting with some interest to see the old Canary Restaurant Building uncovered again. It has very good 'bones' so if they restored it properly it should look great. For those who do not know it is Listed and described as:


Palace Street School, 1859, Joseph Sheard, architect; 1869 addition, William Irving, architect; 1890, addition for D'Arcy Hotel, David Roberts Jr., architect; 1891,
addition completed by Sproatt and Rolph, architects; 1906, became Cherry Street Hotel

From what I understand, Dream retains ownership of the commercial spaces in the Canary District. So far, they have done a good job of attracting unique businesses. Except for TD Bank and Fika (a cannabis store), there are no chain shops.

I do not anticipate Dream leasing to another bank or cannabis retailer. This will likely be a prestige space, not suitable for a nail salon or dry cleaner, so I think you're safe.
 
Love the brick pattern, but the first and second floor is a big mess with the awful grey spandrel. Why couldn’t they just bring the brick down to the ground floor 😭
