Hmm, as opposed to someone who pretty well throws criticism at every residential hi-rise design being built in this city.

Hey, Whats bad to you could be good to others and vice-versa.... not everyone is a vegetarian:eek:

Among the very many good to great residential buildings that are either being built or in the works in the city:

Sixty Colborne (Church and Colborne, Freed Developments, 11 + 25s, aA)
One Bloor East (1 Bloor St E., Great Gulf Homes, 75s, Hariri Pontarini)
Massey Tower (197-201 Yonge, MOD Developments, 60s, Hariri Pontarini)
Ãce Condos at York Centre (Lanterra, 57 + 67s, aA)
L Tower + Sony Centre (Castlepoint/Fernbrook/Cityzen, 58s, Libeskind/P+S)
Five (5 St. Joseph, Graywood/Mod, 48s, Hariri Pontarini, ERA Architects)
Market Wharf (1-3 Market St., Context, 33s, aA)
Picasso (306-318 Richmond St W, Monarch/Goldman, 39s, Teeple) (former Gansevoort)
River City Phases 1 & 2 (Urban Capital/Redquartz, 16 + 12s, Saucier + Perrotte)
Garrison at the Yards (Fort York, Onni Group, 12s, Wallman)
Theatre Park (224 King W e of the Royal Alex, Lamb/Niche, 47, aA)
Florian, The (Bay & Davenport, Diamante, 25s, Hariri Pontarini/Young + Wright)
Charlie (430 King West, Great Gulf, 36s, Diamond Schmitt)

Among the many bad to very—I mean extremely—bad buildings being imposed on the city:

460 Yonge Street (current RBC/Sizzler's Pizza, Canderel Stoneridge, seeking 60s, G+C)
88 Scott St. (was 40 Scott St., Concert, 58s, P+S/IBI Group)
Couture - Bloor Walk 2 (Ted Rogers Way, Monarch/Philmor, 42s?, G+C)
Berczy, The (51-61 Front St E., Concert, 13s, Young + Wright / IBI Group)
Aura: Residences of College Park III (Canderel, 78s, G+C)
Britt, The (former Sutton Place Hotel @ 955 Bay St, Lanterra, seeking 41s, P+S/IBI)
Motion (rental @ 570 Bay (former Two City Hall) 29s, Concert, Young & Wright/IBI)
300 Front St W (Tridel, 49s, Rudy Wallman)
Cinema Tower (21-31 Widmer St, Daniels, 43s, Kirkor)
INDX Condos (70 Temperance, Lifetime/CentreCourt, 54s, P+S) was Canada Tower

Couldn’t be much clearer than that.

My Take:

Great projects

One Bloor East (1 Bloor St E., Great Gulf Homes, 75s, Hariri Pontarini)
Massey Tower (197-201 Yonge, MOD Developments, 60s, Hariri Pontarini)
Ãce Condos at York Centre (Lanterra, 57 + 67s, aA)
L Tower + Sony Centre (Castlepoint/Fernbrook/Cityzen, 58s, Libeskind/P+S)

Theatre Park (224 King W e of the Royal Alex, Lamb/Niche, 47, aA)
Florian, The (Bay & Davenport, Diamante, 25s, Hariri Pontarini/Young + Wright)

Adequate (Better than nothing)

Charlie (430 King West, Great Gulf, 36s, Diamond Schmitt)
88 Scott St. (was 40 Scott St., Concert, 58s, P+S/IBI Group)
Couture - Bloor Walk 2 (Ted Rogers Way, Monarch/Philmor, 42s?, G+C)
Berczy, The (51-61 Front St E., Concert, 13s, Young + Wright / IBI Group)
Aura: Residences of College Park III (Canderel, 78s, G+C)
Motion (rental @ 570 Bay (former Two City Hall) 29s, Concert, Young & Wright/IBI)
300 Front St W (Tridel, 49s, Rudy Wallman)
Cinema Tower (21-31 Widmer St, Daniels, 43s, Kirkor)

Failures (Would rather have a parking lot)

Britt, The (former Sutton Place Hotel @ 955 Bay St, Lanterra, seeking 41s, P+S/IBI)
460 Yonge Street (current RBC/Sizzler's Pizza, Canderel Stoneridge, seeking 60s, G+C)
INDX Condos (70 Temperance, Lifetime/CentreCourt, 54s, P+S) was Canada Tower

I like sentinel's added category - I like a lot of the buildings in the adequate category but admit that they could have used better materials. bang on with the failures

What a hypocritical post. It’s fantastic that you feel that way but your opinion is in no way more valid than anyone else on the forum.

you seem to have some deep-seated need to function as a cheering section for bad architecture, (ie. Trump and this Rumpelstiltskin-like mess), and an equally strong need to deride buildings where architects are actually aspiring to do something interesting (George Brown College Waterfront Campus and Sick Kids Research Tower). Rather odd.

Get over yourself.

the only thing that needs to be gotten over is the defense of mediocrity.

I'm not a fan of 88 Scott either, but much of what you like could be considered mediocre. If you can't prove what you like to be superior to someone else's opinions, than you should just keep quiet. No one else has your brain, so it's stupid to expect others to only like what you find appealing. How can you stand to live in a city that is dominated by banal architecture? It must be torture.

Let's not get too personal over these preferences please. Ad hominem attacks solve nothing, nor does the attitude. The lists can be interesting to compare, but on their own they don't provide enough information for a meaningful debate. Claiming that any dissension constitutes defence of mediocrity amounts to little more than grandstanding, unless you're God. Is that you God?

Not God, but I am pretty sure God says thank you for this!
