While excellent, this makes me wonder what could have been accomplished just by making the planters walls wide enough to allow someone to sit on them. :(
 
Most private-public space usually aims to keep seating areas to a minimum, due to the potential vagrancy issues it might bring along.

That is true but they did put in a couple of benches. Also, around the corner on Bay St. there are granite seating surfaces on the ends of the planters there. Finally the Second Cup has set up outdoor seating and tables.
 
The Second Cup is a purdy one.

Just a really nice job, and an astonishingly better use of space than a little-used right turn lane.
