Top 10 High-rises built this decade

I admit that the RBC Centre may be slightly overrated, but I feel that it ought to be defended. It does draw one's eye upward with its lantern and is spectacular at night. Great glass, LEED Gold certification and some interesting details like the creases and podium screen help make it among the top 10 high-rise additions to the city.

You should also consider 180 Queen West, which goes beyond the box, with interesting cladding. Overall, it's an unusual and memorable composition. At 16 floors, it's not that tall, but a high-rise nonetheless. Its setbacks and different components seem to draw inspiration and make a connection with the venerable Canada Life Building nearby, while asserting a modern identity.

High-rises on most fan sites generally applies to buildings with 12 or more storeys. In the field, I believe that number is as low as eight floors.
 
I think there was a rumour about one for Yorkville last month.

Absolute if we include the GTA. I like the Met quite a bit, Casa, Pantages and the X. Also thought 1 St. Thomas was very well done for what it is. The Morgan and Mozo come to mind for the more mid-rise buildings, they seem to fit in and at the same time add more interest to their neighbourhoods.

The Four seasons is my preference among the newer luxury towers. Also like the Festival and Ritz to round it out.
 
Okay, I had some time on my hands today, so I decided to score each of the high-rises mentioned in at least one of the above lists and see what buildings were most highly rated, on average.

I gave 10 points for each #1, down to 1 point for each #10, and divided by the number of full 10-building ranked lists (19 at the time I calculated this), to give an average point score for each building. The maximum score, if everybody put that building at #1, would be 10 points. There are 42 buildings (so far) on the list.

The numbers sure look much nicer with an even 20, so poll closed! kidding of course.

The options for the 2010's are going to be much more substantive and likely more variable. I doubt they'll be one building, never mind 2, that averages out to be in everyone's top 5.

Also that's a LONG time to wait for another poll like this. Should make this a yearly thing.

1. Absolute (wait. it's in Mississauga. does that count?).. i'm not the biggest fan of the glass, but the design is way beyond anything else this country has ever seen,

2. Bay Adelaide Centre: i know the design can be seen as boring, but this is a high-quality, steel, skyline impact skyscraper that signalled a new age in high-rise office construction in Toronto.

3. Ritz Carlton/RBC Centre: the Ritz has the better design, whereas RBC has the better building materials/overall finish... this changed our skyline, and changed the entertainment district... sorta making it part of the CBD as well,

4. 1 King West: though the cladding isn't exceptional, this tower is a piece of art. everyone always looks up... one of the most unique properties in the city,

5. One St. Thomas: pure class.

6. X Condo: who woulda thought this would be executed so well,

7-10: random projects i can't think of,
