It's obvious that if there's ever a national securites regulator it will be in Montreal. That's the way this country works.

The Brit press treats Aussies like loudmouthed, mouth breathing 'unsophisticates' but there's a grudging respect as well (generally because they'd all move there in a second if they'd have 'em and the people there are generally prettier than 'ome).

Actually, that respect didn't start until the Aussies started kicking their butts in cricket, which was a huge deal back in the day.

Sadly, Toronto will continue to see competition getting tougher and tougher because the rest of Ontario (even the 905 belt) would rather spite Toronto then recognize its importance to their own well-being. When the rest of the province and in turn the politicians of Ontario (of all stripes) understand that a strong Toronto is vital to this province, only then can we end the slow decline.

It's obvious that if there's ever a national securites regulator it will be in Montreal. That's the way this country works.

I think the only thing that list shows is that if anything, Montreal should NOT be the home of a new national securities regulator since they already have all those agencies.

Add to that that Toronto is already the financial capital of Canada and it's a no-brainer.

Why is there a " law ", in the first place, that says a headquarters must be in any specific city ? Toronto's status is all the more remarkable given the indifference shown it.

The Public Sector Pensions Board's head office is in Ottawa.

And anyways, since when was Toronto dependant on having federal agencies?
And trust me when i say this, the finance industry in montreal has died. Everything finance related is in Calgary and Toronto.
