Leonards was in 'his zone' when he took these. Just great. I'll have what he's smoking please. :)

Wojeck, a popular CBC-TV series from 1966 to 68 shot a scene here on the DVP.
John Vernon played Dr. Steve Wojeck, a Canadian coroner.

This is probably the 1960s as well - at least the Toronto Telegram still has an advertising billboard (it folded in 1971).
It's so long ago that I'm not sure of the location - Richmond E. near Church?

You're right about the location in the second pic, Goldie; that's the Victoria Street side of the Arcade Building and we're looking towards Yonge (the parking lot beside the Arcade Building was the Tivoli Theatre; the parking lot in front of us was Shea's Victoria Theatre.)

And another late 60s giveaway, that's a BA station (with the modified 1967 logo; then BA became Gulf in 1969)

Correct - we're looking south-west towards Victoria St. with the Arcade building towering over the street.

Great shots Brewster, theCharioteer and Goldie, the late 1960s-early 1970s period in Toronto really had a transitional look - the shiny new bank towers alongside so many grubby old warehouses and smaller buildings, even the streets and sidewalks have that grubby look. Keep 'em coming!

Here is a couple of early Kodachrome views of the 401 from 1958 courtesy of Leonard Poole. I know what interchange but lets see who else might like a quess.

In the best tradition of New York photographer Weegee, the Telegram archives contain some great photos of murder, mayhem and eccentricity on the streets of Toronto:

This "UFO" pic is certainly one of the most interesting from the Toronto Telegram archive.
However, I don't think the Telegram's photographers came anywhere near capturing the violent, gritty photographs Weegee made in NYCity.
The Telegram boys gave us plenty of pics of the exterior of banks after robberies (next 2 photos) but the rawness and violence of NYCity (3rd photo) was a requirement for Weegee to become famous for his pix of dead bodies.

Police shooting, NYC
Weegee's book, Naked City, was the making of a legend.
Perhaps we just didn't have enough crime in Toronto to make our photographers famous!

Could that be the robber (with pipe) standing nonchalantly beside his conquest?

Not sure if it is the exact same black car but here is the one the hitch-hikers eventually got a ride with on Yonge Street , early 70's.

Notice the rising skeleton of the Manulife apartment tower (the first phase of the project) in the background.
