Simons

Walking through the store again I noticed how poorly applied the directory showing what is on each floor onto the columns. I dunno if they just had staff do it who don't know how these vinyls work, or if it was poorly made, but it just looks really bad and obvious. I can see that signage falling off due to the poor application. Unless it isn’t permanent. But either way it just looks bad. I had noticed it in some of the pics posted up thread, but looking closely in person I’d say it looks even worse than the pics.

If Simons were to open any more GTHA stores in the interim, my guesses would be STC or Mapleview (Burlington). Pacific Centre indeed seems the most logical nationally.

Also, I think there's a bit of the old Nordrom's store at the Eaton Centre not being used by Nike, Simons or Eataly. I saw it in one of the plans. I think it's on the second floor. If so, that's a potential small expansion possibility for either Eataly or Simons down the road.

I wasn’t sure if that was Nike’s stock room but it’s not indicated in the square footage total and It’s also about 5000 sq.ft. so probably not.

My dream scenario would be that Simons takes over the BMO space and creates a grand entrance in the Dundas atrium. It’d be a 133,000 sq. ft store, not unreasonably large. But adding that 5,000 sq. ft space is probably more realistic as it would match Yorkdale’s 117,000 sq. ft.

I had to hold on to that one for the longest time, though I did tease it here.

It was pretty obvious they were in the mix for the former Nordstrom box.

It took a long time for that deal to come together, then for work to start.

I'm a little surprised they took only 92,000ft2.

Simons has been posting some great numbers at TEC and especially Yorkdale.

They are 112,000 and 118,000ft2 respectively.

I wonder how Simons has been doing at Square One lately. I feel like foot traffic at Square One has actually gone up since TEC opened. It was pretty quiet when it first opened, so I think that TEC (and Yorkdale) exposure has helped.

The CEO of Simons did mention in an article that sales across Canada shot up after the Eaton Centre and Yorkdale stores opened due to the increased visibility

They need to fix their hours again... M-W they close at 7PM... weird

I used to make a trip out every few months after work on a Mon/Tuesday but cant make it by 7PM.

Luckily my office is downtown - so I can walk up at lunch to eaton centre.

Yeah it's odd that they don't follow the mall hours. Maybe they negotiated an exemption in their lease not to have to.

It's not entirely uncommon for anchor stores with exterior entrances to have an exemption to regular mall hours, although usually the exemption is used to have longer hours than the mall, but I suppose it can work the other way. Still weird they do that though.
