Rob Ford's Toronto

Kelly was a history professor who taught at the elitist Upper Canada College (the socialite John Tory graduated from this elite institution) . Another thing you should know about Kelly is he is a longtime LIBERAL!

So what we got was a slimy smooth-talking LIBERAL elitist as our UN-ELECTED mayor!

I am probably alone on this forum by saying that it sickens me to see the shameless power grab that is taking place at city hall. I am sure that we don't have to worry about Norm Kelly (who looks like he was dug out of a fresh grave) smoking crack, getting shit-faced drunk or doing lines with attractive young ladies. What I DO worry about is Kelly bringing to city hall the culture of Liberal Party corruption that so prevalent at Queens Park which has resulted in $BILLIONS being STOLEN from the taxpayers of Ontario!

Rob Ford, Stephen Harper and Ayn Rand could walk up to you, lop off your cock and hand it back to you while saying they did you a favour, and you'd still be screaming about the "Liberals."

Sex worker is the preferred term for anyone working in the sex industry. That includes strippers, cam girls, Dommes, and escorts. You can still be a sex worker and never touch, have sex with your client, or even get naked. Sex worker is an umbrella term used by individuals and advocacy groups to fight for sex worker rights and reduce stigma.

But it's also up to the individual to decide how they want to be labelled. Some strippers, cam girls, and nude models don't want to be called sex workers.

It's unfortunate that A's legal name and address was made public because of the stigma associated with sex work. Even if you're accused of being sex worker when you aren't.

Correct. Many escorts who provide sexual services prefer the term SP, service provider. "Prostitute" is judgmental and denotes a sell-out. SPs are businesswomen (and men.)

I think we keep getting away from the fact that, paid or not, Rob was partying with a young pretty woman that was not his wife. End of.

Yup.

Maybe a separate thread called "How To Define A Sex Worker" would be a good idea...

Seriously.

As to the shooting and editing of the show, I can only surmise that the usual talking points didn't work when you had such a lickspittle asking the questions. Furthermore, they aren't enough to fill an hour. I bet Ezra was thrilled to get extra rant time.

I wonder what's going on there, too. It's not like Lisi wanted the video for his dvd collection. Rob is the only one with a stake in getting it back.

Well, wasn't there talk that Lisi was trying to get in Rob Ford's good graces to get a job with the city?

I mean, Lisi probably would not be hanging out drinking vodka with Ford and taking so many phone calls from him just because he was a good client. He likely saw Ford as his ticket to something better, and so even if Ford didn't order it, Lisi might have tried to get the video back of his own volition to further ingratiate himself with Ford.

BTW, new user here, been lurking for a while! Glad to find a forum where people are so passionate about City of Toronto issues.

I'm not quite feeling that explanation. It's a lot of effort just to make a good impression. Lisi would have to be the go-getter of all go-getters.

No no, Lisi is a Ford family goon on the payroll.

No. A "sex worker" is NOT the equivalent of a "prostitute". It is anyone that engages in the sex industry.

Stripper=Sex Worker
Escort=Sex Worker
Porn Actor=Sex Worker
Dominatrix=Sew Worker
Chat Chat Girl/Guy=Sex Worker
Prostitute=Sex Worker

So using "sex worker" as a cute term for a prostitute is a misnomer and just wrong. The term is far more encompassing and I am not to blame for other people's narrow mindedness. I am just not going to handle an "innocent party" with kid gloves because if she was that "innocent" she would be suing to high Heaven by now. Problem is, you have to go into court with "clean hands". Ever wonder why Robbie hasn't sued yet? Same deal.

I am not going to kept going over this but I asked my partner if our daughter was to become a Victoria's Secret model what he would say...he would be proud. I asked him if she wore the same outfit in a banquet hall to sell tickets at a stag and I will be honest...his reaction wasn't the same.

Time to post this again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQFKtI6gn9Y

I bet Ezra called his mom excitedly to tell her he'd be on TV.

Argh I've been trying to ignore this Alana discussion for two days. Even if she is a sex worker and even if he did have her in his office and even if she was his connection (all of which, I might add, is based on the speculation of one of his staffers and a few pictures of her in lingerie dug up online), it's like THE LEAST EGREGIOUS THING he's done. There are SO MANY MORE AWFUL THINGS he's participated in. I'm not saying it's not important to mention it, but days and days of discussing "is she, isn't she" and all the parsing of job descriptions and the whole creepy level of misogyny that's rippled under the surface (or right out in the open occasionally) of these comments... fuck. I mean did I really see someone referencing the sanctity of marriage at one point? I happen to believe that him having a hooker in his office is not the best judgment (if she is or was a hooker). But who gives a fuck if he's cheating on his wife? That is so beside the point.

Anyway that's my rant. That discussion is lame.

Word of the day: Lickspittle.
You win the vocab contest of Nov 19, 2013.

lol.

I think it's fair to count strippers, adult video actors, webcam exhibitionists and the like as sex industry workers. As for models, there's certainly some wiggle room for definition, but I'd be inclined to lean towards a sex industry association if the position requires gratuitous (partial) nudity as opposed to non gratuitous. Underwear models selling underwear? Model. Underwear models hosting your stag or poker party (or working as your "personal assistant")? Sex worker. Not that I consider the title a slam, just an observation.

I'm not sure why other folks, who otherwise seen as non-judgemental over prostitution, nevertheless feel that identifying someone as a sex worker is an insult. It's a job, not a judgement. :rolleyes:

Its not an insult. It’s just incorrect. Strippers aren't sex workers. Unless they have sex with customers. Just because someone works in the sex industry, doesn't make them a sex worker. A sex worker has uh, sex for work. Pretty simple.
A young female worker who is paid to be "look hot" or "act sexy", as in an "underwear model hosting your stag or poker party" is not a sex worker. Not even close. Unless having sexual contact is part of the gig. Then she would be having sex for work. All the other fanciful and subjective parsings of the term—as in "being a part of selling the illusion of sex is still sex work"?—are completely ridiculous.
