At this point in time, there are colleagues of Ford who are just shuddering. Couple this public intoxication stuff with the pro-casino rousing in an inappropriate place, and you've got what amounts to a very public meltdown. Yet all the while, there will be electors who still defend Ford.
So I wonder, how many electors are left out there actually willing to have Ford continue to represent our city one more time? Probably very few, as of this morning, with this news going out today. And it will get more public, this alcoholism stuff. Surely some of Ford's backers can start (now) to persuade him that it is in his interests, and the city's interests, that he cooperate and let another right wing candidate step forward. Ford is toast now, but he doesn't realize it.
I think from this day forward it becomes a more serious game. It was a chuckle this morning, at first blush, but it's not funny now. I can't understand anyone now willing to trust Ford with policymaking, and with holding public office, given ample evidence of his terrible judgment, but yup, there will be votes for 'im.
You can't make this stuff up.
