Rob Ford's Toronto

.. but I also feel he is devoid of a self identity. He's a patois speaking dread when hes with that type. A captain of industry in those circles. A jock around jocks. As Quimby might say. A fickle mush head.

Yep, excellent observation. I loathe the guy as a MINO and I think it's despicable that the city is sucked into his vortex of crazy. But I'm guessing someone that self medicates to a stupor like him, has extreme issues. Most of his family are either truly ignorant about it, or as mentioned turns a blind eye, or straight up don't care. That's a harsh thing to live with, and I do wish he can receive real and serious help. But he has to step away or voted out of office for that to even have a chance of happening. Rofo always seems to me like a bully who's been\is bullied himself. *casts a glance at his best brother ever DrugThug JR*.

If this shit show was a movie script it would be laughed out of every studio as too fantastic.

Agreed again. Reality is definitely stranger in this case. On a totally completely unrelated manner.

http://www.thestar.com/news/city_ha...igation_wont_be_revealed_before_election.html

Excerpt from that article:

The mayor is known for demanding that high-ranking city officials address low-level constituent complaints that someone has called him about. He argued that he treated Apollo and Donnelley like other businesses.

“Are you accusing me of doing something? What’s wrong with helping people? Nothing wrong. I help out everybody,†he said. “And I’ve never taken one dime of taxpayers’ money.â€

Democracy Watch, a government accountability group, filed a complaint on both the Apollo and Donnelley matters in June. Co-founder Duff Conacher argued Thursday that nothing in city policy actually prevents the new integrity commissioner from releasing a report prior to the election.

Well then. Might as well make some more popcorn, it might be a long 2 months.

I voted. What's your take, Jimmi? I think Smith's murder was the reason TPS launched Brazen II. I also think the cops pretty much dismissed a link between Smith's death and Ford's efforts to recover the crack vid. After that, it became about extortion.

A related question: do you think the police are still "working away" or is Brazen II an investigation in name only, i.e. it's open but largely passive unless new evidence come along (e.g. deals for testimony that could come out of Project Traveller)?

Lastly, are you getting any insights into the state of the Ford campaign through your Etobicoke connections?

I completely agree - it's the reason a homicide detective was initially assigned...Giroux got the call because it was a homicide investigation involving the Mayor of Toronto - I can just imagine that conversation in Blair's office - also, imo, why police didn't charge for the, ahem, "lesser" stuff - in the end, police laid what charges they could.... still not convinced Smith murder a totally separate thing.

But that makes no sense - she can't control who her supporters vote for, and if they were going to vote Ford, they would have been on his side from the beginning, rather than being Stintz supporters. I can't see anything but a negligible number of potential Stintz voters moving to Ford because of her dropping out.

Well, yeah, but I can see Slob-O being dumb enough to think Stintz' supporters would simply do what she says, much as he probably assumes his own fanbase would unthinkingly follow whatever orders he'd bark at them. And I'm not so sure he'd be wrong to think the latter.

Whatever weird little episode took place between Stintz and Slob in his office that afternoon will probably never come to light. Too bad, as I'm honestly curious about what that could possibly have been about. But, y'know, it occurs to me that if the Fords did have something on Stintz and attempted some form of blackmail, and if Stintz dropping out of the race was in any way motivated to get out from under their thumb, Slob and Thug are certainly vindictive enough to want to punish her anyway. If withdrawing from the race was Stintz' notion of protecting herself, it may well turn out not to be any protection at all.

Refresh my memory. I haven't been paying close attention to the whole situation as long as others.

I've heard (a couple times, from different people) that Michael's is kept open so that police have an easy spot to have an informant collecting info.

First, Diane is dressing the Ford boys like twins, and unless I'm having a dense moment, the dude with them is a same guy.

I fail to see how this serves the revolution of anything except platters.

Mayoral candidates don't support anthem motion
“This is not an issue that is, number one, an emergency issue and that’s what member’s motions are supposed to be. I don’t understand why it is even on the floor of council.”

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/08/22/mayoral-candidates-dont-support-anthem-motion

Did Robbie just read something in the manual? It's on the floor on council because it effects everyone who lives in Canada, and supports the Charter of Rights. And those, including councillors, who think it a federal issue are forgetting the basics of democracy.

And remember that those playground-unveiling photo-ops were in Stintz's own ward--it's more like RoFo "crashed" them, and Stintz was locked into grinning and bearing it the best she could.

That's why it bewilders me why anyone would have thought Stintz would have resigned on behalf of Team Ford.
