There is no Municipal mandate for doing so, only Provincial and Federal.

That is reasonable, given the mayoralty in small rural areas is requiring leagues less responsibility than a city like Toronto, and there are few career politicians living in burgs of 3,500.

All of which makes me believe even more that we need to treat large cities differently than small towns in their governance. Stricter, enforceable laws, more power for creating revenue, a cut of sales tax. We shouldn't have to run to the province for everything when our city makes up nearly half their population. I won't go as far as city states, but certainly something better than the Fisher-Price approach to the cities that the province currently exerts.

Does anybody get the feeling that at the beginning, Ford & his wife are arguing about something, possibly about whether or not she'll kiss him for the camera? Body language is very confrontational at first.

On the rare occasions we see MINO and Mrs Ford together I am naturally curious about her feelings towards him.

I don't recall any discussion here about how his teeth were whiter when he came back from "rehab". They certainly aren't pearl white but they also aren't nearly as yellow as they were before he disappeared in early June. He definitely had them whitened while away in "rehab". Or perhaps a good cleaning, I dunno. But they look better.

It's not uncommon for alcoholics to be prescribed sedatives in the early stages of recovery. I suspect that's what he's been on, and perhaps taking a few more than recommended.

Wow, I think you might be right! The manic tight smile, fluttering eyes, unfocused rambling speech...though I didn't see any signs of the eyeball shakes. They're impossible to hide and telltale.

May sound strange, but I wouldn't rule out mushrooms - he's got that "just act normal, just act normal, just act normal" thing that people on hallucinogens do. Def not benzos or opiates - too manic. And coke wouldn't make him that smiley.

I so love the "What's the Mayor high on now?" game.

Bottom line: he is very obviously high on something. Whenever he's wasted and has to go on camera he approaches only reluctantly and usually talks to someone off camera as a lead-in (see also Danzig interview and April 20 park clean up).

Wha? that makes no sense. You commit to something, confirm your participation, realize you are in over your head and will be exposed as a fool if you go there so you decide to.... deliberately schedule another event at the same time??? That just makes you look like a complete asshat. It's not like if you said "OOOPS! I somehow forgot that your debate is actually the same day as my wife's cousin wedding! I have to attend the family event... family first y'know?" He scheduled the fundraiser for the same evening knowing he was already booked for the debate -- it wasn't an accidental double-booking.

You're right that he pulled out because he (or more likely his spokesman) realized that he would have nothing to say and would make an ass of himself at the debate. His flimsy single sheet double spaced platform could never stretch thin enough to cover heritage or OMB issues.

But instead of looking like an "asshat" by booking a last minute fundraiser, he came out with equal 11 o'clock news coverage about his pizza party at Mom's house. If he'd given an "i'm sick" excuse with no pizza party, then the press would have filled the time speculating about his lack of preparation and inability to participate in an intelligent discussion about responsible development and heritage protection.
