Rob Ford's Toronto

Well said typezed. We're all watching an addict slowly commit suicide.

Or, when it comes to Rob & Doug collectively, a sort of electoral murder-suicide. They don't even care if they win or lose; they're just eager to blow themselves up, because they know the jig is up otherwise. And more retained-base supporters = more people to blow up = more psychic impact.

As I've said before, never mind Harris & Harper; they're more in the mold of Harris & Klebold.

So if you're at home, you can serve alcohol to whoever you want, but if you're in a property you have a liquor license for, you can't serve alcohol in that property even for a private party? That seems bizarre. I'd believe it, considering how restrictive liquor laws are in Ontario to begin with, but that would literally make it illegal for my aforementioned friend to serve his friends a pint in his locked restaurant after-hours but legal for him to serve that same pint in his apartment directly upstairs (but at a separate address).

Let's just say if it was illegal, lock us up because we're all criminals. Especially when we were helping prepare for his wedding. Broke that law a lot. Wouldn't you if you had imported Czech beer on tap?

All of the alcohol at a bar is associated with their liquor license and needs to be accounted for. Not saying it's right, but that's how it works.

I've had this more whimsical framing of Doug & Rob's strategy as a little like Fester & Karbunkle in the epic Don Martin classic "The Hardest Head In The World"--unfortunately, it's not on-line anywhere; but, take my word for it...

Yesterday the cops were at City Hall for a threatening message to Ford but there was also a call made about some sort of theft. Anyone have any info on that? Was it Ford-related?

Also, anyone know who these two men are that got into the elevator with Ford? I've never seen them there before. The one guy in a tie looks like he could be a detective. They escorted him, along with security, outside to look at the flag in the window of the mayor's office then back into his office. Maybe he hired a private security firm after the supposed threat?

First, there is a lack of a mainstream social democratic party in the United States. Second, Obama is less conservative than Romney, but still more conservative than most Canadian liberals.

Obama is more liberal than people give him credit for. I think he really would like to have universal health care and strict gun control, but the political climate in the US would simply never let him get those things through. Look at how problematic the convoluted and ridiculous "Obamacare" legislation was. Adopting a single-payer healthcare system in the US would be impossible because of how entrenched the insurance companies are in the very fabric of the health care economy, and how very repulsed the population is by the idea of their taxes going to help others. So you get this weird mess that sort of forces you to buy insurance and it's all very awkward legislation and I don't think it was his fault.

He's also been quite open about being pro-choice, he's for LGBT rights, etc. I don't even think he's as religious as he has to pretend to be.

I feel bad for him because he inherited a war, and left-leaning people judge him based on the decisions he's made there, which at times perhaps were not the best.

The one hovering nearest Rob is Michael Ford.....nephew.

He already used that strategy last time around, and he will use it again, and it will resonate with a lot of people unless we react to it differently.

Tolerating homosexuals is one thing, endorsing the LGBT movement is another. It's the same with feminism, animal rights, anti-poverty activism, or environmentalism.

By all means these initiatives ought to be supported, but saying that those who do not support them are 'disgusting bigots' will get us nowhere politically. Try 'uneducated', 'narrow-minded', or even 'living in the past' instead. Then actually campaign to promote these issues rather than assuming the battle has already been won and those that don't get it are garbage.

What would the social life of a vegan be like if he referred to all of his friends as murderers? Sometimes we need to soften our rhetoric if we want to influence others.

It's funny how you can say that, yet when a straight person doesn't toe the line, they're a bigot/homophobe, etc. Accusations require evidence to be considered legitimate. Without it, calling people names and waging war on their character is bullying. It's astonishing that many gay people still resort to the tired homophobia card. How the hell are you ever going to win people over when you alienate them? When you begin to personally insult people that hold different beliefs than you, you've already lost.

How would calling people "uneducated", "narrow-minded", or "living in the past" be received any warmer than calling them "disgusting bigots?" You're still insulting them; just in a less hostile manner. How about not using labels at all and attacking arguments, and not personal character?

The woman in the white coat (best seen around 5 secondsish) looks like Micheal's girlfriend from that pic in the plane a few weeks ago... Mr. Serious looks like a security guy.
But WTF was that? To the elevator, down to the main floor, then to the stairs and back to the 2nd floor... what the hell was that about?!?

Rob went outside to gaze lovingly at the Canadian flag that he taped to his window overlooking Nathan Phillips square. It was his show of defiance coupled with immaturity....

Why is the flag being flown in the first place? I love how the mainstream media has painted the impression that homosexuality is banned in Russia. The law that was passed was an anti-gay propaganda law, not an anti-gay law. It's not illegal to be gay in Russia.
