Rob Ford's Toronto

I wouldn't expect to hear about it from Josh Matlow.

Absolutely disagree here. The Star could have interviewed someone, and that someone spilled the beans to Matlow.

I agree however that there's no guarantee the story is ready to go.

I remember a tweet from Cooke at the Star a couple of weeks ago saying that Alana wasn't a "friend" as Rob claimed, and they were investigating.

Matlow's tweet was "Several people I've heard from seem convinced we'll be hearing a lot about the Ford Escort again. I'm not sure that car's even made anymore." To be fair, that isn't him saying an escort spilled the beans to him. For all we know, these several people could have been reading this forum and passed on what they've read here to Matlow.

"Insensitive candy tossing." HAHA. It feels silly to bring up, sure. And yet... how can anybody watch this guy in action and still cling to this belief that he's just a big ol' teddy bear man-of-the-people type who really means well? Because he skates on that perception! And it's just so obviously as much of a lie as everything else about him!

It's like that Hazel McCallion fish story video. Remember that? And how his partisans made such a big deal about how it showed the nice guy side of him? That's not what I saw. I saw a man profoundly ill at ease and only able to manage the most robotic responses to the underhand set-ups everyone around him was lobbing his way. From what I've seen, and I've seen a lot, he flounders in any unscripted human interaction that lasts longer than a handshake. The guy can't even make eye contact with people.

I don't think those kinds of little things are silly. So, so often I've found that little things were actually red flags, early warning signs of the kind of person I was dealing with. They add up. Of course with Ford we are WAY past the red flag stage, and yet he and his brother are currently trying to present a reformed & humbled image of him. The insensitive candy tossing is a "tell", I'd say.

Also, imagine if Kathleen Wynne chucked candy canes at people like that. Ford Nation would be all over it.

So what I mean to say is, they can't all just "give themselves a raise", and it has nothing to do with Ford's powers. Happens January 1st each year, whether Ford is mayor or not. (In fact, Ford himself gets the same raise, and that happens whether he actually shows up to work or not.)

Sorry for the disjointed message - my very first post to UT. :)

Really? I highly doubt Ford would have ever been elected if he was the way you describe him. Maybe he's been that way over the past few months because of his various handlers, but I've seen him be quite down to earth in a way that makes me understand why some people have actually taken a shining to him. I'd argue that it's actually the scripted stuff that he has the most trouble with. The guy tends to have a really hard time reading off a sheet of paper and always seems uncomfortable reading words that other people have written for him. It seems he's far better at talking one on one with people, at least those who are in support of him. He's got that George W Bush kind of thing about him that, for better or worse, some people actually react positively to.

15 minute Rob Ford/Conrad Black interview at 9pm tonight on VisionTV. At midnight, the full 35 minute version will air.

I don't think I could stomach the 15 minute version, let alone the full 35 minutes. Two of my least favourite people on the planet.

He said "We're working on this but early indications are she is not as the mayor described her." Those indications could have been based on the discussions taking place here involving the other company that dealt with stag parties and whatnot.

It's a safe assumption that anything the mayor says now is not as it seems. He even lies about things he doesn't even need to lie about. It's pathological.

Maybe, I just don't feel as though there will be a connection between Kindree and the escort agency that's rumoured to be the subject of this upcoming story. It probably won't matter in the end. I'm just saying that Cook may have known just as much as everyone else here when he tweeted that.

It was reported last week I think, and I believe it comes up for debate shortly, the amount was around 1.5%. Next time the guy at work brings it up, mention the raises Ford gave his "loyal" employees last spring, and again just before they cut his powers. Wish I got 2 substantial raises in one year, but only if I didn't have to work for Ford.

Unfortunately I think that would be firing blanks. I got the impression that he felt that elected officials should work for free, or at least very little since they are already well off. He also brought up that Ford gives his salary away to charity, and spends little of his office budget (actually I think he overestimated the amount).

Love or hate the guy, he will make an interesting subject of research in future political science classes.
