Rob Ford's Toronto

No, yeah, for sure. It's a question of AMOUNT, right? But Ford is a bit of a liar so if you accuse him of doing lines and he was only doing a bump, of course he's going to say, "It's an outright lie I was doing lines!" [in his head: "I only did a little bump!"]

Of course it's actually irrelevant; he just doesn't think the way you and I do.

Very valid point. He could have been shooting up in the bathroom and he'd still adamantly deny he was doing lines in the back room and feel totally justified that he was completely honest. "Lie of omission" is not in his vocabulary.

Ford probably originally met her through her work as Miss Toronto Tourism and introduced her to others by her actual given name, so whatever the nature of their relationship it wasn't facilitated through escort pages. Most of Ford's staffers seem to be in their early 20's, peers to this girl, likely to be perplexed/ grossed to see her around an unattractive, sweaty man who to them seems so much much older, and assume, due to their own biases, that she can't be around him through her own choice. But Ford is a celebrity, a lightning rod for both fans and haters, and has money and influence to toss around. Some people want to be around that, hangers-on.

I'm a rubbernecker as much as anyone around this story, and wouldn't be able to turn away from a juicy tales involving a pretty young woman, but speculation here has slagged a few of the secondary characters as prostitutes, criminals, pimps, drug users or dealers with often no evidence.

Wow, that was a lot of speculation in your first paragraph.

Yup. It was frustrating then, and now that you've (we've) been proven right, we aren't even allowed the satisfaction of having those who were wrong apologize and grovel and promise not to vote in future without our permission. This democracy stuff really blows sometimes. To further compound the insult, forum rules prevent me from calling out the specific posters who were wrong and laying into them for their stupidity and worthlessness with language commensurate with the seriousness of their errors.

BTW, none of this is sarcasm/facetiousness, although I can see how it could be interpreted as such.

I've hit this point pretty heavily on the blog. I know people I consider intelligent who supported him the first time around. I thought it was a stupid move, but these were intelligent people willing to overlook what at that time were disturbing but not criminal beliefs and idiosyncrasies and prejudices he held because they believed in his agenda and thought at the least he'd see it through. I wholeheartedly disagreed with them and their politics, but I didn't consider them stupid for them. Almost all of those people, of course, being intelligent, have since said their mea culpas and dropped Ford as someone they'd ever support again. But I can tell you, as I've said many times, anyone who at THIS POINT is still supporting Ford is the very definition of a moron. Seriously, THOSE people are fucking dumb.

EDIT: Hell even Keenan in that piece from 2010 that's been making the rounds defended him as far as his ability to do the couple of things he said he would.

Here is Alana Kindree. If ever this was a reminder that one shouldn't make false accusations about total strangers on no evidence...

I agree this thread is moving a little too close to sexism when considering Alana's role, but all this article concludes is that her friends says she isn't a sex worker. I think more investigative journalism than interviewing a friend might be required. I can certainly understand how people might doubt that a beautiful and young woman needs several online dating profiles. Is she shy? Because she seemed to meet the mayor pretty easily? Again, I'm not suggesting that women who date online are professionals, just that there remains questions unanswered and I understand why people are jumping to these conclusions. And regardless, I suspect his wife isn't thrilled about it.

On that note, here's what Robyn Doolittle had to say on Rob Ford's success as mayor:

I think the mayor has been very successful in changing the culture at city hall. His presence here has city staff and councillors and the various agencies, boards and committees, more concerned about the bottom line. They may be motivated out of fear - worried he'll rant about them on his (former) weekly radio show or (soon-to-come) TV show on Sun News Network - but the end results are the same. Ford's political philosophy resonates even today, despite the fact that he is personally disgraced. He deserves credit on the labour file as well. However - he could have been much more successful implementing his agenda if he'd 1) shown up to council as much as a typical mayor 2) worked with his colleagues 3) was willing to compromise.

Yeah I saw that and was actually surprised. She gives him more credit than I would have. I still think with the way he went about doing things even before the scandals, he did more to impede anything getting done at all more than he did to make things run more efficiently. But his utter lack of credibility and the massive distraction he is now as well as the fact that he's fundamentally amoral and ethically bankrupt as a human being make supporting him now completely indefensible.

Truth. His inability to compromise made him a rubbish mayor from the start....that's without mentioning everything else about him, some of which makes him a rubbish human being.

Ford's penchant for misrepresenting the truth, and outright lying should have been enough for people to put aside their politics. Prior to the mayoral election, Ford had flat out lied to the public at least twice, not to mention all the "facts" he's so fond of. How can anyone trust a compulsive liar to push any agenda forward? I realize the Ford fans will claim that all politicians lie, but even if that's true, they certainly don't lie as poorly, and as stupidly as Ford.
