Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

I have said however that everyone who would knowingly vote for a bigot like Ford is a bigot though.

Then you also believe this to be true:

You state that all torys are liars.

You are also claiming then that all who would have voted for Giambrone are cheaters and adulterers.

Ford has about as much chance winning as Sinéad O'Connor has of being elected Pope. Anyone who thinks Ford will be mayor is delusional.

Nice, so all Tories are ignorant, delusional liars. Great.

Umm ... what kind of bigot am I?

A hypocritical one. You want me to read between your lines to understand your perspective but you're willing to nail Lordmandeep to the wall for his.

If people are going to vote for Ford it is because something in his message resonates with them, and this could be one of any number of things which in this case is far more likely a perception of fiscal responsibility than a social message of intolerance. It is unbelievably ignorant and irresponsible to dismiss anyone who votes for Ford a racist and you drag this debate to a new low by insisting on this sort of reactionary rhetoric and false logic. Get a clue!

I never said that.

If that's what you believe, then that's your choice. Personally, I think it is not right to say things like that. But hey, it's your choice.

Rob Ford is a wife-beating child-abusing uneducated drug-using drunk-driving person. Perhaps we should be discussing these facts ... rather your claims about all Tories being liars.

Do you beat your wife? Do you abuse kids? Do you use drugs? Do you drive drunk? Why would you vote for someone who does?

People's reasons for supporting Ford are almost universally reactionary - except for maybe the trollish libertarian types who always think government sucks. Typical Ford supporters feel slighted or otherwise abused by city hall. Ford is the nuclear option - it's all about destroying whatever city hall represents because, you know, council is wasteful and incompetent and have never done anything right, blah blah blah. Ford's lack of intelligence, poise and tact almost becomes an asset to these voters. People aren't voting for him because they want nuanced policies and visionary city building. They want him to run through City Hall like a madman tearing shit up and cracking skulls.

What I'm getting at, nfitz, is that I don't think it does us liberals any good to freak the hell about Rob Ford. A bunch of left-leaning people who are okay with the status quo shaking in their boots and hurling insults at the thought of Ford behind the mayor's desk just convinces Ford supporters that they're on the right path. It galvanizes their support.

I thought Thomson had the right-wing libertarian vote sewn up.

Ford is grossly unsuitable for Mayor. Heck, he's grossly unsuitable for dog catcher. I think not stating this because we don't to attract fools to his cause underestimates people. Even right-wing voters aren't that stupid. His gross incompetence needs to be highlighted ... and anyone who considers voting for him needs to have their nosed rubbed in it.

On the other hand, I have no fear of Rob Ford being elected. I think it's amusing that he's still on the ballot, and I'll be surprised if he even finishes second. The campaign doesn't really begin until after nominations close on Friday. Are you thinking I should actually be concerned? Perhaps you don't have as much faith in the electorate as I do.

Instead of focusing on how bad Rob Ford would be as mayor, maybe we should discuss some of the positive things that could come from Ford becoming mayor

Every forest needs a good fire once in a while.

Wow!! You just lost all credibility here. Being evasive and untruthful about your responses; making blanket statements and then shrinking from them when called out on them; slandering others and tainting them with completely false and untenable allegations... all the while being totally hypocritical. Given the standards of this forum I'm surprised your kind of behaviour is tolerated, truly.

For the record I wouldn't vote for Ford either but I sure wouldn't be so ignorant and offensive as to accuse anyone who would as being 'racists or misogynists'. That you would do this and not even blink or think twice is chilling.

Toronto's municipal government doesn't need a forest fire right now, but a hydrogen bomb. The left-leaning champagne socialist dictatorship is getting on the nerves of many Torontonians, including the progressive ones.

What on earth are you talking about? Your the one here who has been making all these false allegations about what people have said ... and then slandering them!

What is a socialist champagne dictatorship? I don't know how long you've been in Spain, but we've been voting in our politicians a lot longer than you have!

I don't live in Spain anymore btw (I should change that location thing) but I digress... We have had 7 years of left-leaning policies shoved down the throats of Torontonians, pet projects have been pushed against the will of most of the citizens of the city and in the spirit of achieving something for their legacy, the current crop of politicians are bulldozing their projects through without any consultations (Giambrone's fiasco over the Dufferin jog is a major one).

Toronto needs a bit of restraint, of logical transit and development planning that doesn't fly in the face of the last 40 years of due diligence by various agencies.

What are you talking about? We had an election 4 years ago, and we voted pretty much the same bunch back in. That is neither a dicatorship, nor being forced down one throats. The last poll that showed what would happen if David Miller stepped into the race said he'd be the front-runner. Does that sound like being forced down ones throats?

Simply because you are opposed to the policies that the majority of people want, doesn't make it a dictatorship!

I(Giambrone's fiasco over the Dufferin jog is a major one).
I fail to see how actually building this underpass which has been discussed for over a century is a fiasco! Given how quickly the project has progressed, I'd say the opposite. But I don't live in the area. Why is this a fiasco?

And yet you criticize the ones who have been doing this?

Given that this is the "Why is Rob Ford evil" thread, I can only assume that you think Rob Ford ... of all people ... is the answer to this?
