Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

All places change and people always refer to the "good old day" but he does have a point. Toronto use to be "the city that works" and it still does but is not the city that grows. Toronto is inertia 101. City Hall loves to bitch at the Queen's park and the feds but never looks in the mirror. People bitch about McGuinty but he has done tons for Toronto and all of Ontario cities in his tenure. He has uploaded many of the costs that Harris had downloaded, he has provided more and reliable transit transfers and despite all the bitching he has still given Toronto a lot of money to work with for mass/rapid transit expansion. People love to bitch at Harper being a country redneck but in terms of transit and urban renewal he has been the best PM in over 50 years and the only one that truley sees the benefits of investments in city infastruture.
Considering the current fiscal situation {especially for McGuinty} I think Toronto should be every thankful he didn't cut everything.
I, and my sister, when last in Toronto were surprised at how run down and dirty some parts of the city had become but still Toronto can still say it "clean, green, and safe".

How the hell do you justify your point about Harper? Oh, wait, you live in Vancouver, right? Giving a bunch of money to the City That Has The Olympics does not make one an urbanist.

The fact that Rob Ford has support from more than 0% of the population truly and deeply disturbs me. As I've said many times, the man is nothing but a buffoon. He would be the worst thing to ever happen to this city.
Don't worry, I'll reserve a spot for you in a refugee tent if he wins.

... truly the mantra of the desperate!
I'm not the one whining in desperation! Besides ... this is the worst example? Grafitti? Has it even got worse ... it seemed pretty bad to me in the 1980s ...

Well if nfitz sees it, it must be so! Nobody else's personal experiences or interactions matter, obviously.
I've seen service improvements on routes I use. Where has service gotten worse and been cut?

Toronto still has leeway in terms of adding new taxes and fees and by raising it's lower property taxes, which it will, until they cost advantage it has enjoyed over the 905 is gone.
Why do you decieve us like this? Toronto has dropped it's commerical property tax rates for a few years in a row. Don't pull stuff out of your imagination.

If you hate this city so much, why are you here? Who are you shilling for?

As I've said many times, the man is nothing but a buffoon.
He's far worse than a buffoon. Lastman was a buffoon. But I've never seen the kind of violent tirades in the council chambers from Lastman that we see from Ford.

The median/average home in that area is around 600k.
That's E1. Median detatched home there is $585,000 in May 2010.

Mississauga is W12 to W18, W19, and W20. Medians there range from $501,000 in W20 (north of 401) to $733,000 in W13.

Toronto medians are a lot lower in some areas, Even E3 which is mostly walking distance to the Danforth subway is only a median of $456,500 for a single detatched house - lower than any part of Mississauga.

Besides, the original context from js97 was "Riverdalte homes start at 600k and that's not detached... ". Clearly that statement is false, as an example that was almost half that price was easily found!

For the most part, those 2008 changes on the routes you use restored the so-called Harris cuts that were made in February 1996. Credit is deserved for those service restorations, but it still took way too long.

To come full circle ... wasn't councillor Ford asking to cancel those increases? Would he kill evening service if he becomes mayor? He's already made it clear he wants to get rid of streetcars.

Ah ... I get it. If Ford get's elected, they'll have huge fodder for articles for the next 4 years, and will sell a lot of papers.

So many jokes I could post as commentary over today's thread events, too little time. Keep it up my droogs!

You know Royson James is licking his chops, and somewhere deep down I'm sure Sue Ann Levy is actually cheering for those "socialist seals" in "silly hall" to take the reigns of power yet again. Heck, if Ford gets in, I think those City Hall plant watering staff Ford so often derides will have better job security than Levy.
