Restaurant Comings & Goings

Burger's Priest will be opening beside the Starbucks at Front & Berkeley, in the space that was formerly a Freshii.
Not until spring of 2025.

Reliable Fish and Chips at 954 Queen Street East in Leslieville has officially closed down after nearly a century

A few months back I even asked in the fish and chips thread if they were any good but got ignored, so I never went.

I never went to this place but out of curiosity I went to the Google reviews and sorted reviews by newest first and noticed a slew of poor 1-star reviews. One person said their Halibut had bones in it and was brown inside and they had to argue for a refund. Another lengthy review mentioned the halibut smelled bad and rotten. For some reason she ate it and got bad food poisoning and yet another said the Halibut was dry and not tender. From other reviews it appears the restaurant came under new ownership recently and quality and portion size went down drastically. Not surprised it went out of business.

Are there any good Fish & Chip places downtown with reasonable prices? I miss the London Fish & Chips place that was in the North Food Court of the Eaton Centre going back about 20 years ago before the big revamp. It was a mom & pop operation that made fried freshly battered fish before your eyes and the chips were of the UK style. They also had awesome onion rings. I don't know if they ever relocated.

Consider yourself lucky. I saw reviews were good but it was horrible when I tried it last summer. Then I realized all the good reviews were from before the new owners/renovation. Just make the trek over to Olde Yorke.

I can't think of a fish and chips place right in the heart of downtown, but the closest that I will vouch for are Fresco's in Kensington Market, and Sea Witch at St. Clair and Christie.

It was good before the new owners ran it into the ground. I have seen this happen so many times to restaurants over the past few years. New owners take over, reduce portions sizes, rise prices, nickle and dime the customers and then place goes out of business. Dining out is becoming less enjoyable each year.
