President Donald Trump's United States of America

On the plus side it will force Pride Toronto to scale back and focus on local performers and attractions, something the community has been asking for. Great time to not bring in American acts and focus on Canadians.

For corporations, it was cool to support Pride. Now apparently for some it's cool not to. It's gross.
I don't want to get into this too much, but the level of cowardice, capitulation and selling out here tells us a lot about these companies. That is, something about sitting at the dinner table with them makes you become one of them...and to put that mildly. /bleh again

We should have known all along that corporate DEI was always a ridiculous, craven, feeble gesture (h/t Russell T Davies). Or perhaps a cynical amoral one. No one should forget all the US companies that are weather-vaning to align with Trump and anti-Woke. A pack of liars and hypocrites, all of them.

It kind of reminds me when my trans friends walk by any given bank or business draped in Pride flags and symbolisms during Pride month and say to me it's mostly all for show. And they would tell me if the bricks ever starts hitting the glass, will they be so embracing of the community in their displays and outreach? I guess not...

I would like to think that this faux openness benefited those all of us who worked there and/or used their services, even if their motives was for their own self-interests. It's times like these that explicitly reminds me that it was only for their own self-interests. And it would really be unfortunate having to be stuck working for these opportunistic bottom feeders (to put that mildly)...or in this case, rely on them for funding.

Trump went off on Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier in the White House earlier.

Not his finest hour.

Vance started it. Trump was quiet for a long time.

Not the USA's finest hour. It's clear that they know support fascism (if it wasn't already clear from Vance and Musk's support for the openly pro-Russian and extreme-right wing AfD.

Absolutely disgusting how Trump and Vance treated Zelensky. The expression of disbelief on his face is the one we all get once we suddenly realize that the person we're having a conversation with is mentally ill. I really hope the EU steps up big time to help Ukraine, because its clear that the inmates are running the asylum in the US. I bet Putin watched this and laughed his ass off with utter glee.

All of this. It's a sea change in our post WWII discourse. Everything we (in the "West") thought we knew is no longer true

This is the end of Pax Americana. Plain and simple. Nobody can rely on the US anymore. And a number of allies will have to consider withdrawal from the Non-proliferation Treaty and pursuit of their own nuclear deterrents.
